It's because game developers these days are releasing trash games that back in the day would have been mediocre or average at best. So when an average game comes out (like Apex), eveyone plays it because everything else is trash.
We need to get the business suits away from our video game hobby, they are ruining it like they do everything else. They'll only do the bare minimum they think they need to do in order to make an average profit. Groundbreaking innovation? Pure, unadulterated passion? Nope. Games these days lack both. They're driven only by the profit motive. When was the last time you had an unforgettable moment like Aerith's death at the hands of Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7? Discovering The Flood for the first time, halfway through the campaign of the original Halo? When a nuke was detonated in the first CoD: Modern Warfare? Not lately I'd bet.
This game is a cash grab, like Fortnite is. It has one map, one mode, some skins (largely recolors), some voice acting, and not much else.
