Tried apex legends, and the game feels hard to play

Right now I'm coming from Fortnite, and in Fortnite I'm pretty good at it. I've been able to be in the top 10 and sometimes even win matches in battle royal somewhat often. I tried apex last night and the game was so much harder to be good at compared to Fortnite. It feels impossible to sneak up on enemy players, somehow they always know where I am. And then when I go for cover, the minute I exit cover I take damage before I can even see where they are. Does this game have a cheating problem even at lower levels or are Apex players just extremely good at the game compared to Fortnite? My tatics in Fortnite don't seem to work in this game, my winning stragedy is to first deploy somewhere most players aren't going, stock up and then hunt down the enemy players https://xender.vip/

  • @devrasan1 Hey there, glad to see you branching out to try new games! When it comes to apex no game can really compare to its fast pace crazy movement.

Having played a bit of fortnite in my time I can say the games are worlds apart from one another. In terms of shooting, movement, and way of thinking/strategies.

Fortnite as an example will look at the storm and say oh crap run away get out of the storm. A lot of apex players will see a team in the store and instantly think hmm lets push in the storm and go kill them. lol, just the way of thinking between the 2 are insanely different so the game is played differently. It takes time but eventually you will get the hang of it.

  • @devrasan1 It’s not the best time to start with apex, the cheatingproblem is at an all time high no doubt.
Especially stuff like Cronus is everywhere
  • @devrasan1A few things...
    1) The skill ceiling on Apex is extremely high. There are some completely cracked players and premade squads out there.
    2) The game is infested with cheaters and the anti-cheat does absolutely nothing. Nothing is done about smurfs either.
    3) The matchmaking is the worst in gaming history. You will regularly get matched with complete n00bs and up against three stack squads who will kill you in milliseconds.
    4) The servers suck so getting killed behind doors, no regs, and just complete lag are common place.

Good luck jumping into this game.right now. It is brutally nasty to newbies.

At this time, save yourself a headache, stick with Fortnite.

    - No sound, people walking up with ZERO sound
    - Cheating is rampant. Pretty sure you can at the very least use walls without ever worrying about getting caught.
    - Pubs are where the sweatiest of 3-stacks go to stroke their ego together.
    - 20 tick servers... for a FPS game...
    - The SBMM is horrific

  • @devrasan1 Like ANYTHING if you're passionate about you'll get better, you got the idea of landing in a not so "hostile area" so You can get a feel of how to pace yourself. Stick around a teammate you feel that's better than you & protect them! Keep a full inventory & think of what you need before you loot, a list in head: Ammo, Attachments etc. so you can just ease into. learn shield swap. RELOAD!

Main a gun over a Legend. HEAL asap timing is critical. Give more damage than you take. Move cover to cover. RELOADED!

Find a squad asap because Soloing is rigorous. So many new players enter Apex. Overall, I suggest you find a squad, it gets toxic if you're new to this game. lol LTM's Best practices;YT advice MangosInTrees
    Goodluck!

You are right. This game is hard to play. Others have already given good advice: run away, get a team if you choose to stay, etc. I'll only add one thing: get a mic and use it. It's a tough proposition because there are a lot of players who will verbally abuse you if they know you can hear it. Grow a thick skin, learn to mute on the fly, etc. But when you have the right teammates then good comms are critical. You can say a lot with pings, but you can say a lot more with a mic.

@devrasan1 I suggest watching some "normal gamers" streaming Apex Legends to see how they handle some if the basics. Also check your settings to be somewhat optimal (very important for console players to get the aim assist working properly). Jump a bit off to hot zones are in most games you are already top-10 by using that strategy, dont even try ranked unless you have played normal trio enough..

  • @devrasan1 Welcome to Apex! I can only imagine what you are experiencing. I have not played fortnite so i can't offer any compairsons.

As an older gamer who started this in season 0 (before Battle Pass was a thing) I am just at the point where i have a basic competence of the game. That took me years although I was on my own and had to figure everything out for myself.

Stick with it. Find some friends. Play a bit of bot royale to get a feel for how the weapons, movement and abilities work so you can employ them in a real game. It will take time to figure out. That's normal.

The match making is hit and miss. As you are a newbie your lobbies should be on the easier side but that's not always the case. If you find you are getting stomped by more experienced players (you can usually tell from the banners (but not always, some sad folk actually buy badges and are garbage in reality) just play something else for awhile.

In general I find earlier in the day is easier than later... the sweats log on at night and if you start getting lobbies with them just play something else. There is nothing you can do about that and the game becomes unplayable... this seems to be normal in my experience so use your judgement and practice. When the lobbies are more or less balanced it is a brilliant game.

@devrasan1I can second what others are saying in that it is not a good time to start apex. The game has not been the same as it used to be the past 3 seasons. Cheating has increased exponentially to the point that whole lobbies are infested with them, the game is bugged where hits won't register, there is a lot of toxicity among players in ranked, and the game requires a large time commitment to maintain your skills. About the only thing worth playing in apex right now is Bot Royale. This can be fun because it is PvE and you can co-op with other players. Battle Royale and Mixtape are just no fun right now. There have been rumors the devs are working on a fix for the problems, so I would recommend waiting or just playing bot royale until they fix the bugs and the cheating problem.
