Wattson is still useless
In season 7 patch notes the devs have admitted that they are HAPPY with having a legend that only works in a very few select matches. This is ridiculous as pubs is the game mode selected most and hav...
@AlexCross2408 I also main Wattson and have the same observations as you. I don't understand why it makes sense to people that a character is really good in professional play and bad in the rest of the game. Why is that an okay thing, 90% of the player base does not play like those 1%.
No matter how good fence placements are, an opponent with any kind of game knowledge can destroy them with a grenade. The pylon is not a viable way to protect your set up as an opponent can just wait you out until the pylon explodes. In that situation, to continue using fences and placing pylons you are forced to carry many ultimate accelerants and sacrifice ammo or healing. So now Wattsons teammates are responsible for the fighting and Wattson just sits out. In a situation where you have no coms with your team could spell disaster.
I have an idea, since people hate camping so much, how about a Wattson rework? Instead of a placeable pylon it stays on her back, a mobile pylon. The area of affect would be reduced only to cover enough area for Wattson and a teammate right next to her. There would be some kind of electricity effect or something so it would be very clear when ult is active. The pylon still does the same things but now she has the utility to move, instead of only setting up in a building or position which she could still do.
I think three things, the people who are perfectly fine with or call for Wattson nerfs either
I understand that balancing a character for casual and competitive play is very challenging. But in a case like this where a character is only utilized in top tier play, a rework is usually needed. This takes time and doesn't have to happen right away.
The professional play thing is not a good explanation. If someone talked about other balancing issues that may result from this or a potential rework being to hard with evidence, thats fine. But a character being used so little unless in top tier play just doesn't seem right. Apex pretends to be a character based shooter but isn't balanced like one.
The devs also said they are okay with Octane being bad in squads, which is bamboozling to me, Apex is supposed to be a team game. That idea makes 0 sense.
@Kateh8sapexpro player in rank = want last squads alive= passive = take position seriously = less risk =5 kill is enough =last squad 100 point = camp
@AlexCross2408 She suffers the same issue as any other legend with static abilities in public games unfortunately.
The avg random teammate has zero patience to utilise your skillset and will just mindlessly rampage at the nearest gunfire they hear.
I played wattson a lot during S2, combined with my pathfinder bud using survey beacons we would play fairly aggressive until the late circles, ensure we were there first and set up a mean defence, which was hugely successful tactic at the time.
He quit mid season 3 leaving me with random players and wattson just became a nightmare to use due to the utter luck of any organisation or willingness to work as a team lol.
Ramparts got the same problem....you'll place walls in nice spots overlooking end circles and your randoms will stand next to the damn things shooting rather than utilising them.
As with most things apex...the legend isn't the problem, its the playerbase.
