What happened to the fun in apex
let's talk about some problems plaguing this game.
SBMM- yeah, yeah, it's not going away and that's fine and all but has anyone considered balance changes around SBMM? SBMM doesn't just affect the skill level in a game it affects everything. With SBMM if you don't use the best legends and the best weapons you just lose. It makes it where I can only actually utillize about 30% of the game's content or expect to lose the game. I've had an issue I'd like to point out about the current system for a while now and that is a party of stacked players. Yeah, it's fun to play this game with friends until your enemies are partied up 30k+ kill players all stacked. You see the problem with this is the current system "tries" to balance teams however what actually ends up happening is one group has one good 3k+ kill player and the rest of the team have 200 kills each. How is this team supposed to compete with a stacked 30k+ kill team??? Now if SBMM is supposed to balance a lobby by skill then something went horribly wrong here obviously... how is this a Balanced lobby? Isn't that what SBMM is for? If it is it is failing horrendously at it. My proposed idea is that stacked up players should be in their own respected lobbies against other stacked players, therefore solo qued players actually would have a fighting chance at victory. (Don't * yourself they don't). Even shroud said it's impossible to solo now...ohh before quitting the game. This would at least give everyone an equal chance at victory instead of having to solo queue knowing the odds of your team winning are slim to none.
Weapon balance- Yeah this is an important one in respect to SBMM keep in mind some weapons work better on controller and some better on mouse... I think its safe to say the mastiff is beyond insane atm. It's not that it shouldn't win at close range, it should. The issue is this shotgun can regularly deal 45 to 75 damage at ranged far exceeding expected shotgun range. The other issue is just the sheer amount of damage this weapon has in its shell tube. 6 shots and potentially over 650 damage. Yeah, that's not balanced. Even with a purple magazine I don't think any weapon comes close to this amount of potential damage besides the 2 lmgs in the game...
So how about the Volt and the R-99? my question is why are these weapons so much better than the rest of automatics in the game? why do close range smgs have less recoil than assault rifles? Why are their bullet velocities nearly the same as every Assault Rifle classed gun in the game besides the R301? Yeah call them balanced until you use them and they have the same range as any AR in the game. (keep in mind i've noticed the R-301 is much easier to use on mouse than a controller, far extending its range). Yeah, these weapons don't lose at close and medium range to anything besides the mastiff. That's utterly ridiculous. If a weapon is given enhanced strafing speed should it not be balanced in some form or another? The flatline and the havoc have no strafing speed at all, slow reloads, high recoil, similar if not the same bullet velocities, and just downright suck compared to these monstrosities of weapons. What's the point of these two existing if they have no place??? The flatline isn't a horrible weapon but the havoc?????? The havoc has absolutely uncontrollable recoil. It's downright unnecessary. The DPS of the weapon isn't even that good. This gun has no place. The R-99, Volt, and mastiff far exceed any other weapon in the capabilities of this game and it sucks that with SBMM I have to either use these weapons every game or just lose.
Legend balance- This is the one really ticking me off. obviously, hitbox differences are really ruining the fairness in this game. Wraith has had HALF of a hitbox since the beginning of the game, paired with the best abilities. That's just a total balancing failure. The recent changes in her hitbox did absolutely nothing. She's still far smaller than any other legend. Her tactical negates the abilities of any other legend, whether that be there ultimate, passive, or tactical. That ridiculous man... It's like she's immune to all abilities, paired with the smallest possible hitbox, and then when she strafes she so small she's practically unhittable, how can a medium-sized legend possibly compete??? Her portal makes her an out of class champion because it's far better than pathfinders nerfed zipline, which just about serves no purpose now since you are just going to be beamed using it. I thought she was supposed to be an "offensive" legend? Her ultimate makes her a better recon than pathfinder? Just tell me where the balance is???
Pathfinder.- "History repeats itself" in season zero it was obvious why Gibraltar and pathfinder were so bad. Paths hitbox was a giant square and Gibraltar was just thick. Knowing that regardless of how good these legend's abilities were they were going to be useless we have now recreated the original season zero issue of having a legend with good abilities but a hitbox so big it doesn't matter how good they are. Anyone noticed how big pathfinder is now? Keep in mind he takes 5% extra damage as well. Since his hitbox size increase pathfinder has easily become among the worst legends in the game again. He is the second biggest legend in the game now and takes extra damage??? Yeah, it's true. Pathfinder is utterly useless now. his abilities mean nothing if he's going to be beamed from every direction all the while for some reason taking extra damage???. Unlike skill-less wraith which has push-button invincibility, paths grapple actually took skill to utilize. If you failed the grapple you died. His grapple time is just not justified. It's like SBMM was added to him. The better you are with him the more limited you can play him. If I grapple far I get a 30-second cooldown, so I'm punished to play him? utterly ridiculous.
Horizon- Her ultimate is a push-button victory, which one dev said was not supposed to be how the game works but that is how horizon works anyway. if you get stuck in it you are probably dead. Ohh, wait not wraith shes invincible to all abilities. But everyone else is dead. Octane's stem will not get him out. Paths grapple won't get him out fast enough, and by the time you escape there are 5 arc stars blowing up around you. sounds balanced right? Yeah, 'cause it's not. Then her tactical which is the best overall besides wraiths... She goes 100 feet in the air, becoming nearly invincible, and can straiff and beam you, but you can't damage her. Sounds like a great addition to the game, doesn't it. oh and it's a push-button win with no skill required either. You just press a button and fly 100 feet in the air. Cool right? She's also supposed to be an offensive language but has better recon capabilities than pathfinder due to the fact that her tactical can get her entire team to the high ground instantly. Very balanced.
Gibraltar- Yeah it's hard to play him because he's so thick but it just seems to me having 400 hp isn't healthy for the game when everyone else has 200 right? Gibraltar screws one player over in your team with his double health then gets beamed by the next because he's so large. He's a game ruiner. For himself and others.
Bangalore- In season zero one of the best legends. Since her nerf, she's been at the lower half of the pool. It would be nice if legends were balanced and I could play this champion, unfortunately, her abilities can be used against her instead. her smokes cooldown is probably the slowest cooldown in the game for any tactical and her ultimate is among the worst in the game. It's funny how there's an item in this game called a digital threat and if the enemy has it they can use Bangalore's abilities against her right? Yeah ever thought about it? if you land as Bangalore and the enemy gets a digital threat, your smoke is now the enemy's advantage. Funny right? Easily fixed though. Why isn't the Diggy threat a Bangalore specific item? Giving only bang this item would bring her up to par with the rest of the high tier legends. Isn't that good from a balancing perspective? It would also make her a counter to caustic. Ohh and her hitbox means she's not beating wraith in a 1v1 but everybody knew that already...
Caustic- Can't believe this legend almost got buffed. It's ridiculous how he takes the same damage reduction that Gibraltar does but is way smaller. Honestly, Bangalore and mirage are just as easy to hit as this thick boy. But he gets a 15% damage reduction? crazy man. His gas has no counter. Abilities are cool and all, but not when they have no counter. He isn't pushable and that's just not right. He has slowed the pace of this game down since his original buffs and is not a healthy champion for the game in his current state. He took away the fun of being able to push every fight that season zero of apex brought.
Yeah call me "bitchy" but this game is getting up there in age now and there has never been a change in the METAS. Metas are always going to exist but if they stay the same so does the game. Games die when they get boring and apex has not brought something new to the table in a long time. besides busted horizon that is... It's still the same wraith is far better than any other legend. The R-99 is the best smg. The wingman is still the best DMR. What has changed in the game for the positive.? ohhhhhhhh before I forget.
SOUND EFFECTS- Did anyone play season zero as I did? other than the movement in this game I had one other major praise. In season zero this game had probably the best sound effects of a game that I had ever played. I could always tell where an enemy was and counter them. Now I find myself losing 50% of fights because the audio in this game for footsteps is unrealistically low. It seems like I can hear someone from 50 feet away running around until shots are fired. Then the audio bugs out and footsteps don't happen. Half of my deaths are to an enemy climbing a roof with no audio, then proceeding to beam me when I had no chance to react because the audio in this game doesn't work right. Yeah instead of fixing the audio is there any way to just revert it to the old system respawn? everyone I play with is experiencing this issue. We've lost countless fights to audio just not happening. This just wasn't a problem with the original audio system. I lose more fights to the sound effects in this game than anything. They are just terrible. Sadly they went from the best I've ever heard in a game to the worst. I do have to wonder if this is to cater to camping? it's just unfortunate such a high skill competitive game has to suffer from such a huge problem. Maybe the biggest issue is the climbing sound effects it seems like climbing sound effects almost never happen. Please consider these issues respawn. Quitting for now. I hope Battlefield 6 is a success because it is my only hope now.
