I know what you're saying about the way a lot of kids use their mic. But I have to say that I'm finding it to be less true now than it was in the past. I'm also talking about pubs only, and my experience may be different than others since I haunt the center-to-left side of the skill curve. But lately people seem to be a little cooler than in the past. I don't always use the mic, but when I do I tend to have some fairly constructive matches, whether the rest of the squad is mic-ed or not. I think we've may have hit the point in this game where players are generally so worn out by "silent" teammates that they're just happy to have someone say anything at all that's game-related. Yes, there are still people who play their garbage music in the lobby or set their headset down in front of their phone while they listen to Jordan Peterson or Joe Rogan. But it seems like fewer than it used to be. Your mic may be worth revisiting.
And for the rare occasions when I get a little attitude I always have my speech ready, delivered in very a sedate tone of voice: "You're solo queueing in a scrub lobby of an unranked mode in a free-to-play game. Who did you think you were going to get for a teammate? Imperial Hal?" It sounds like attitude, but it has actually sparked some constructive discussions about what constitutes reasonable expectations.
And OldTreeCreeper has all my respect, but for the love of all that is holy do not do mixtape unless you feel that gunplay is absolutely the best aspect of Apex Legends. Because that's all it is. People who move with speed that appears to defy game physics and shoot with the kind of accuracy I would have thought could only be had by subscribing to a cheat maker. By all means, give it a try, but imo it's all the horrors of battle royale with none of its charm.

I ended up in a gaming discord about 5 years ago after seeing a post about the same as you, you might want to give it a try.
Biffa773 I just checked out the Discord server and it looks pretty good. Hopefully it is what Frankencooler is looking for!

reconzero This is one of the reasons why I had suggested Fortnite Zero Build as it is normal Fortnite without a player going Super Saiyan with the building the moment you shoot at them.

I really like mt. Sure there is god aim and god movement but I couldnt care less, im gonna have me some fun. Like i said some matches i get whipped, some I dont. I love the look and feel of the game, even mt. But going solo to come 2nd in a pubs is too easy and boring, and since the ranked poi thing I just cannot get to grips with it, so thats gone too.
But in mt where they are at it, I take great pleasure if I can outstratigise them, even if only once in a match and eliminate them.
Some mt games are just a massive killing spree by everybody and it can be fantastic.
Ps the same god Aims play pubs as well as mt in my experience, so not sure of the difference there.

Well, as I say, if gunplay is your thing then mixtape is the place. My game is centered around strategy, position, playing the clock, trying to control terms-of-engagement. All things that have little to no meaning in mixtape, at least not as I've experienced it. But I get why people like it.
Where we are in 100% agreement: "the ranked poi thing I just cannot get to grips with..." I hate it too. I never tire of asking people to explain why it is this way - why "competitive" players prefer it. And I have yet to hear a satisfactory answer. It's essentially a crutch for people who only care about gunplay, for whatever reasons still purport to like battle royale as a game type, and who hate being third partied. To me that makes them lazy players who can't be bothered to learn risk management and just prefer to have the developer deal with it for them. Why these people aren't playing team deathmatch is beyond me. Oh, right. Because it isn't ranked and if they don't have a rank to chase then they're not happy.
