Which do you like blaming your loss for, Boosted Players or Smurfs?
This is a topic about tier protection, with a catchy title because you well KNOW you don't respond to posts unless they troll you to.
I prefer the tier demotion system, because I believe the path forward to a not totally broken Ranked system is to offer incentives and not punishments, since nobody has to play Apex. And because punitive systems have proven themselves to fail like in Overwatch. However, I understand people worry about getting boosted team mates...which, is generally solvable by forming a team of your own. Though also, people don't really want to feel required to have 2 friends just to entertain themselves with a game, and that also is where I'm at.
On the other hand, if you get rid of the tier protection system, you finally get not suck tastic Diamond IV and Platinum IV players (suck being a relative term, see my other post on that 😉 ). But then, of course, what you open yourself up for is people who purposefully trash their rank to play easier people. Enough do this and you only get good people at low ranks, of course, and anyone else just stops playing if they hate playing against people who are falsely identified as, say, you know, a Bronze IV.
Both boosting and smurfing happen anyway, of course. But I think tier protection or the lack thereof definitely favors one over the other. Which do you prefer?

Just a small update on the topic of rank demotion. A game designer specifically handling ranked BR commented on the topic. He said that the main argument against demotion is that people will stop playing rank once they’ve reached their desired rank.He goes on and on responding to different people. I’ll post the tweet here so you guys can read some more of his replies. He got defensive in some the inquiries though.
