Just a small update on the topic of rank demotion. A game designer specifically handling ranked BR commented on the topic. He said that the main argument against demotion is that people will stop playing rank once they’ve reached their desired rank.
He goes on and on responding to different people. I’ll post the tweet here so you guys can read some more of his replies. He got defensive in some the inquiries though.

who do you blame your loss for Boosted Players or Smurfs?

I blame my losses on:

when playing with friends

1. Upon self reflection I find I usually made the mistake.

2. One of my two friends I play with made the mistake.

When playing with Randoms:

We all know it was not my fault but theirs 🙂

When in doubt I blame:

1. MMR

2. Aim assist.

3. Smurfs.

The above is to be taken with a grain of salt as it is a little tongue in cheek.

Seriously now, I really do think Smurfs are a problem and the only way I can think of to make it harder on the Smurfs in ranked at least is to increase the level requirement to play ranked from 10 to maybe like 50 or 100.

Boosted players I do not see as such a problem but I do think that tier protection should be removed any Rank player should be able to lose their Rank and or Tier be it silver 4 or Predator/Master.
