I have 600+ hours in Apex, and have been playing since day 3. Why am I still trash at the game? I have less then 75 lifetime wins, with over 4,000 games played. Just over 1,600 lifetime kills.My aim seems ok, but I always seem to die.

Because you are not learning from your mistakes and actively trying to improve. You probably just jumping in a match and just play at a certain skill level that you feel comfortable at and at which you have plateaud a while back.
It doesn't matter how long you have been playing, if you are not putting active energy and effort into seeing what you are doing wrong, and then trying not to do the same mistakes each fight in each game.
Its just like everything else in life, you can drive your sporty car every day to work and call yourself an excellent driver, but if you want to be a race driver you have to actively learn new skills and push yourself.
Also, in this game specifically, because TTK is kinda long, it really noticeable when you play against someone who is even slightly above you in skill level. Like in PUBG I can ambush and instantly kill a player who is absolutely amazing, and I wouldn't even know that. But in Apex, if you run into someone who is better than you at movement, aiming, and just general strategy, they have so much time to correct their mistakes while taking advantage of yours, so you might be doing okay one match, but once you run into better players, you just hit with reality of how much more you can learn to get better at the game.
So don't just play for very long, play with mind set that you will make improvements in aiming, movement, weapon handling, tactics, teamwork, etc in every single gunfight... Most people don't do that, because it takes concentration and energy, and most people play games to have fun and no sweat and get stressed out.

@Danny_DeCheeto44 If you're averaging 1.6 kills in 4 games your aim is not ok. Maybe record some matches or watch the people that kill you.

Just kidding. @Vladplaya explained it thoroughly. He did mention that it doesn’t matter how long you play... I contest that point! For some ppl it really does matter how long they play a game, for others it doesn’t. Some have a knack for (certain) games while others don’t. It’s just like with sports. Some people just have that talent but still train hard. Others who don’t have that natural talent but still work as hard will still never catch up to them.

Maybe you’ve already hit your ceiling, maybe this game just isn’t for you to excel in... or maybe just maybe you need to think before every engagement.

Let me take myself as an example. I’m good at playing FPS games. I like fast engagement & tight corners as opposed to long range fighting, where I suck at. Sniping match? I’ll give up before even trying in most games because I got the aim, but not the patience. Despite this, if I know I’m being sniped, I use my witts to draw the sniper out or to get close to him as opposed to what I see teammates do... shooting an AR and dying.

Learn from your mistakes is your best bet but seeing that you’ve played so much and ‘achieved’ so few, I think you already stagnated and it’s going to be hard at getting out of that.

@Danny_DeCheeto44 is that competetive matches, too? in ranked matches, your chances of encountering players of sort of your skill level will improve. (just don't be sad with your rank or points there, just see your rank as a tool for being more fairly matched).

@Danny_DeCheeto44also: you are not alone. I have accumulated a k/d ratio of 0.21 over the last year. Skill-wise I belong to Silver somewhere, and would do well trying not to "ascend" to Gold. In order to have more balanced encounters from my point of view.

most of the time, my opponents have the better positioning, I get surprised and flanked, I don't use cover as I should, like reloading in the open, my aim is jumpy, my nerves are bad (resulting for example in mixing up weapons, i.e. hitting the button once and then wondering why there are no further shots, ah, because I got the Hemlok active). I also forget to put my legend's abilities to good use, from time to time. And, generally, I am quite slow with everything.

So, that's why I am where I am.

What are you learning from every game you play?
There is not a single game whether it is Apex or something else, whether I win or lose that I don't think about what I could have done differently. Whether it was position weapon choice what have you.
My best advise is find 4 weapons you are most comfortable with and use those almost exclusively. You pick up other weapons of course, but the minute you can find 1 of your 4 mains jump on it.I have been using this since early on and while the weapons I use now are different it keeps my game play pretty consistent.

@Danny_DeCheeto44 alot comes down to luck. And how often enemys happen to end up grouped against you. Litterly all you need to do to win every fight is keep your squad tight and shoot the same enemy, killing them one and one. If you want your actual skill to matter more you should play something like rainbow 6, cs or insurgency.

So everyone is giving sage like advice here on "you'll improve etc" but no one is mentioning the current state of the sbmm matchmaker that seems to clump all the high tier together once your in game performance reaches a certain point?
There's not enough players to keep queue times low for Diamond players up, so once you get high gold/ low plat' normal and ranked matches will be against Diamond to Predator.
That's a mess and it's not educational or a good basis for player improvement.
Diamond players know this and cant climb ranked so they do smurfs, and round and round it goes.

@Danny_DeCheeto44 This game has a lot of mechanics that might take a while to get used to, like the ADS offset (most noticeable with higher zoom levels), bullet travel time, heavy ammo stagger on hit, severe muzzle flash, ballistic trajectories... And the strategic character based/team character composition aspects. Also, it seems like some characters are more "noob friendly", so if you vary your main pick, or stick with just one or two, you might not reach the potential skill ceiling because you have gone for a strategy that does feel right, but matches your skills poorly.

Again though, judging by OP stats he's now up against High tier players and those cheating, so chances to learn any of that further are minimal.
Choke points and vaults will be camped, you'll have Watson and Caustic combo teams everywhere. The game's going stale because it's gated by frustrated pros.
