@skullcrusher907 1.78 is nearly double the average KD. The vast majority of players struggle to break a KD of 1.0, more than 50% have KD's in the .8 to 1.0 range. Their average damage? It's below 300..
Above average players will have KD's in the 1.0-1.3 range.. Above average probably being the top 25% or so. 1.78 is probably top 1-2% of Apex Players.
Fairly confident you could make it up into Diamond or Master if you were grinding ranked and could find a decent team.
I think you're better at the game than you realize. The only difference between you and most master/pred players is that they grind ranked, they might be slightly better but the difference is minimal. There is one person on the forum who has a KD of 9 and plays in the ALGS... But there are only a handful of players like him. Even some of the more talented players who make it to master or pred only have KD's in the 2-3 range. You're extremely close to that.
☹️
Understandable, I have friends who have about 0.7 to 1.0 and they still encounter Apex predators and 4K damage people in their lobbies.
- DarthValtrex5 years agoHero (Retired)@skullcrusher907 Yeah my KD is 1.15 at the moment, I play exclusively with randoms. I bounce in and out of the top tier lobbies. I occasionally get Master and Pred players as teammates. When I'm having a good night I'll have 5-6 or more rounds getting 10 kills and posting 2k damage. Those nights SBMM bumps me up into lobbies with 3-4 pred trails coming out the drop ship and a few master players.
My big issue is consistency. I think they are simply more consistent with their numbers than I am. I'm sure you have killed preds and master players before, probably more than you realize.
The thing is we all have rounds in which we get destroyed. It's easy to look at their badges and say figures! I should not be playing in matches with them. But honestly, you probably kill them more frequently than you realize.
Take it as a compliment! You're legit good if you're in those lobbies. You might be on the lower end of those lobbies but still.. You'll also get better the more you play in those lobbies, I know I do. I had one night in which I was in those lobbies for a solid 4-5 hours, I finally had a streak of bad games and got put back into mid tier lobbies.. I went on a rampage posting nearly 2800 damage and 10 kills.- 5 years ago
Forsure, Thank you for the insight. Definitely gives me more understanding as to how the matchmaking works, makes sense that after I get a win I’m in the lobbies with demons the next game
- DarthValtrex5 years agoHero (Retired)@skullcrusher907 Yeah, and it's not necessarily a bad thing. It's a good way to really test your skill and push yourself to the next level. That's how I view it when I'm in those lobbies. If I get melted by preds I spectate the rest of the match to try and learn some tricks I might be missing.

Oh and 4k damage badges require a bit of luck or damage farming. I have a 3k and I killed everything I saw, there was no way I could have hit 4k if I had wanted to. I ran out of people to kill/farm damage off.
There are ways you can give yourself a better chance at it, hang around high traffic areas and cross sections of the map. But even still it can be hard to find enough people to hit 4,000 damage.
Another option is to farm damage with a sniper but that's risky business because you runt he risk of running out of cells/batts. Anytime I have a replicator and 170+ materials plus ring advantage I try and farm damage with a sniper looking for that 4k. - hayhor5 years agoHero@skullcrusher907 Yes your friends may still encounter high level players alone. That's some part of the randomness built into the sbmm.
If your friends squad together they will get more difficult lobbies too. For some reason the sbmm weights premades as higher skilled.
