Why is apex sbmm so bad?

Apex is a fun game, don't get me wrong, but the matchmaking is terrible. Like god awful! Its supposedly "skillbased", but its not. I'm a level 60 something, and i'm put against level 500, 20k+ kills, 5k wins players. Does this sound fair? No it doesn't. And with the new addition of the solo matchmaking, every game i play even though i put the solo mm off, its still puts me in solo and everybody else is on squads! Its bs! And since when do the guns do no damage? When i started playing back in season 4 or 5 i cant remember, the game was good. It was so much fun and enjoyable to play, and now its just *. EA just fix the game! And for some reason the intro sound every season since 7 is just obnoxiously loud! Thank you for caring about my rant.

That’s funny. SBMM works perfectly for me. I can win my matches up until Masters then I hit a brick wall.

My pubs would make the majority of you uninstall Apex. I literally only play Masters/Preds and I simply can’t win consistently. Win percentage currently sitting at 1.4%.

    Fun. Marxism is great.

    lmao 1.4%? that's lifetime % not per season %.

If it is that's crazy, I'm curious what's your lifetime K/D? (not per season), also what season did you start Apex?

I started S1, my lifetime win rate is 4.5%, at Season 4 is 6.7%

    lifetime K/D is 2

I think you can win more if you play normal mode, even if you say normal mode is harder than ranked. I dunno, I never play ranked anymore after season 3

you been playing since season 4 and only lvl 60? Making new accounts or?

The sbmm notice if you got skill and put you in higher lobbies, when I came from playstation and tested PC lobbies I used my controller (biiiig mistake) and after 1 game I had half my sky full of trails as punishment, you can say my way to learn mnk suddenly got a bit harder then it needed to be hehe.

@DarthValtrex you know smurfs better than you. You dont know ANYONE who has less real playtime than you, thats better. Bro, all of us have been with or against that level 38 bloodhound that pops off. Its not uncommon.

if youre level 450 and getting put with level 50 people who have "high mmr" and then they end up feeding that game, its a MM problem. The fact that people can have ONE good game and entirely get put into a new bracket is ridiculous.

There is NEVER a case of "you should have at least one decent teammate" thats not a real thing.

Saying the word "should" automatically creates the scenario that youre likely to get * over more often than not. SBMM is not balanced in this game, but to be fair, its never been balanced in any game. There's too many people at a high rank who cant get past plat, who truly believe they need to smurf to "boost their MMR so they get higher tier teammates"

@Axs5626Sxa5001youre reply is literally a contradiction lmfao.

SBMM works for me, and then i hit a wall. If SBMM worked, you wouldnt hit a wall.

No, it doesnt change because youre a higher rank. They seperate masters and preds for a reason. If sbmm worked, EVERYONE would have a 50% winrate, except for freaks of nature and organized teams. Thats how the mechanic is designed to work.

also your comment about my pubs would make you uninstall, shows that youre a liar  or 12. We dont care

    1. @GatorbakerNo.

It’s pretty obvious SBMM works in tiers. The highest ELO pub lobbies consist of high diamond to pred. That means Preds typically win these matches and you end up with players with insane win rates. But that also means you’re locking certain players (high-diamond/low-masters) into a scenario where they become fodder for the absolute top players in the world. This is EXACTLY why you have some average level players with higher win rates than people near the top, because some players are almost exclusively playing the top players. Several of my buddies who can’t break out of Plat win more than me.

Look, just because I have and continue to study SBMM across a multitude of accounts doesn’t make me an expert, but please don’t act like I’m not leveraging data and experience to make these claims.

And I stand by my comment about the difficulty of my pubs, because I am confident the MAJORITY of people are not playing in games where one tiny mistake = death. Gold level players exclusively playing against gold level players is NOT the same as Masters/Preds exclusively playing against Masters/Preds; the game plays/feels totally different at this level. if you are going to ask people to play in these difficult pubs, then PLEASE REWARD them for the competence they are demonstrating.

As a fellow Master/Pred player, surely you agree.

  • I actually believe that their MM itself would be pretty good, what ruins it is that for the sake of fast Q times every MM-variable can be overruled creating very one sided games since on the upper end of the curve there’s obv less players

I’ve been silently reading this thread for a couple of days and finally someone said it. There is MM but its #1 priority is always shorter queue times. It’s quantity over quality.

I’ve made a thread about this exact explanation 3 months ago backed up by developer comments on matchmaking. https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/Explaining-how-the-matchmaking-works/m-p/11135552#M193670
