Why overwatch died, and why apex should change
Overwatch was one of the best games ever when it first came out, but it was a ticking time bomb due to the forum dwellers, a small percentage of mercy mains and symmetra mains who hated anything skill. anything that required effort, or practice they wanted it gone, like having to deal with a tracer (a character with high mobility who flanks, who can be countered with team positioning and a good mccree but its still very hard) most players, instead of going to the forums and complaining, chose to try their best to become a pog champ mccree and worked on their aim and positioning, but some ruled the forums and gate kept any conversations going against their constant calling for nerfs from being posted on the forums, and used the *report as troll* feature to make the post invisible, if you didnt know, blizzard forums and in game reports go by # of reports, not by a dev actually checking what was going on and then banning you. alot of times my account would be unbanned the next day after i got community silenced.
so anyway, eventually blizzard started making new heroes to try and combat dive, and tracer. the first one was ana, a sniper whos bullets would heal or do damage depending on who you shot and she had a skillshot CC called sleep dart that was actually so amazing and blizzard did a great job trying to give support players a way to defend themselves from flankers, many people loved this and were so grateful and did alot of good things with sleep like all of the pogchamp ryujehong moments in ogn apex tournaments in korea where he would sleep a nano bladed genji out of the air, a thing of beauty. but others didnt like this. a skill shot? that i have to learn to use? and possibly practice? no way jose. thats way too much to ask of ME. so yeah, the forums kept complaining.. (btw i am not saying this forum does that, i actually am proud of this forum for agreeing what is wrong with the game as far as the big things like sound queues, sbmm, ranked, etc)
so anyway to speed this up, overwatch kept introducing heroes to try to deal with dive, sombra, moira, and eventually brig, the epitome of no skill high reward that is the incarnation of the forums itself, completely counters flankers by simply existing giving aoe heals and armor. its truly disgusting, to deal with this overwatch had to first enforce a role lock of 2/2/2 to combat the meta for over a year called goats (3 tanks 3 healers), and then when that didnt even end brig being played constantly they had to enforce hero bans. this game went from the best to every month trying to find a way to keep brig out of play, instead of frankly just deleting her like they should.
what im saying is, if all the pro players are running away from this game as fast as they can because of things like sbmm, slow updates and fixes, you should probably try to do something about it. knoqd himself said he never plays pubs because when he does he goes against pred 3 stacks sweatting their balls off like its the apex world cup , so hed rather just put that time into ranked.
to me it seems cut and dry that ranked is for sbmm and we dont need a hidden mmr in pubs. but yeah. it makes me really sad to see the most talented players like aceu who innovated so much in this game be so over it due to no communication or anything. idk i just love this game and never played anything like it but im already growing frustrated after a few months.
people love high skill ceiling games. true fans of a good game want something to work toward and strive to every day. dont be like overwatch and just hand them the easy way
