Will Leviathans just stand there?

Are the Leviathans going to just remain still, or will they start wrecking stuff around the map? I love that they're here now, but it'd be awesome if they did a little more. Thoughts?

  • First time I saw the Leviathans standing there like frozen, I thought there's a bug. A few games later I  was moving around one's foot and there was a fight nearby, and suddenly it lifted its leg. I was hoping for the leviathan to stomp those damn weaponized cucarachas or move away, crush some buildings, shake the island to make some rocks fall and block some ways or at least taking a dump on the map (that could be funny, it could come down with some swollen lootboxes and some nox gas around it, haha). They're way too decorative right now and I can say the same about the flyers, was hoping for these dragons to bite, throw stuff from the air or snatch deathboxes or lootboxes away. Dracarys?

@DoYaSeeMe Not being a purist to recognise a winning formula and not ruin it :S

Maybe there's a reason people don't put arbitrary NPC engagements in a game where a lot of peoples' number 1 complaint is getting attacked by a 3p when theyre busy with another fight. You want to add engagements which aren't even against players in? No way. It would be absolutely garbage.

@DoYaSeeMe The 1 game that instantly comes to mind btw is Titanfall : but it isn't a game where you've only got 1 life.
  • @Anlbrd well, if someone doesn't want to get third partied, he should play (team) deathmatch games. BR has to have third partying , it's not a tournament.

NPCs added to PvP is not something easy to do, a lot of work is involved and doesn't work in all formulas. But Respawn has what it takes, we've seen some great examples in Titanfall games and they also took a few steps towards more PvE stuff with the Season 2 of Apex, so my hopes are up.

@DoYaSeeMe We'll have to agree to disagree mate. I play this as a tournament format game against other players. It's the best one available atm. PVE the likes of which you're talking about from Titanfall2 would kill this game dead for me and anyone like me.

Getting 3Ped is a part of the game. If I got 3ped by a little t-rex whilst trying to secure enough meds to fight a human 3p who are also on the way: I'd just ask what the hell I was playing.

The games are hard enough for me, I don't need more RNG environmental difficulties - the balance is just right.

@DoYaSeeMe Im not trying to just rubbish your idea either mate. It sounds like it could be an interesting game. All I'm saying is I wouldn't be willing personally to bet the best game currently available to me on being sacrificed in favour of it.
  • @AnlbrdOh well, we’re just spitballing so no need to be afraid. If it actually gets implemented and you see our names and don’t like it, then you can call us out for it. But by that time I’ll be rich and care even less than I do now :P

It would be interesting if they’d actually make a seperate mode where this happends and it’ll be the predominate mode preferred by playerbase and you’ll be playing it tho 😈

  • If I was to actually implement what has been suggested here, I'd do so as another game mode. For the competitive / ranked (less PvE ish mode) I would've kept the map as it was before season 2, because I think it was an excellent design, it only needed some fine adjustments. Only problem with separate modes is that it usually splits the playerbase, which means long waiting queues as the game starts aging. Tried Titanfall 2 multiplayer recently but abandoned it after waiting for 5-10 minutes for the matchmaking to find enough players. This also happened in Destiny and Overwatch in the last few weeks I played those.

PvP + PvE should also happen because AI and machine learning has advanced a lot, we should get really smart NPCs in the near future, that could learn from you and with which you could build up elaborate stuff. Creatures are a bit easier to develop, as they are not supposed to be very smart, and flying ones would have less problems with path finding.

@Koochi-Q That's my point mate - I wouldn't be playing it unless I'm totally wrong in understanding how it would play out 🙂 I'd just be relegated to not having a game to play.
