Apex lag/stutter caused by reading

Returned to game recently after couple seasons break, found very annoying feature/bug.

When you launch Apex, it reads something on my SSD in huge amounts which causes lags and stutters because it utilizes 40% of CPU and nearly 100% of SSD bandwidth even if you simply stare at Main Menu

I've heard about assets causing this exact issue for some users, deleting them and letting the game generate them again should resolve the issue.

    1. Press Windows Key + R
    2. Put in %USERPROFILE% and select OK
    3. Go to the Saved Games Folder
    4. Navigate to the Respawn Folder
    5. Navigate to the Apex Folder
    6. Delete the assets folder

If that does not resolve the issue, adding a DxDiag to your post might also help with pinpointing the issue.

@SkyyNetx0 It doesn't stutter for 5 seconds, it stutters for like 10 minutes and it stutters during match too

10 minutes is enough to read all files on my PC several times, zero clue what and why Apex doing with disk reading

Were you able to solve this by chance? I just did a clean install of Windows 11 on a laptop with an Intel 8750H + Nvidia 1060 GB and am seeing stuttering every 10 seconds or so. It'll do it on the main screen but also in game and I haven't been able to track down the issue yet: https://youtu.be/K15PrpOd3GY

I'll be disabling Xbox DVR next, but I'm not optimistic.

@jrronimo No. But I did some digging and found its caused by Apex rigorously scanning your system logs. May be its looking for cheat traces, may be it has some malicious intent, who knows.

@Revangelion Thanks for getting back to me!

I also figured out my problem: The power brick that came with my machine wasn't powerful enough. When under load, the machine would constantly switch to the battery and go into power saving modes. This caused the whole machine to throttle constantly. I replaced the power brick and now everything is smooth as silk.
  • I did what @XHelperZ suggested and I’m still getting these micro stutters. A different community thread said to delete GeForce Experience but that didn’t resold my issue.

It started happening in season 15 and this makes the game unplayable. How do we not have a fix so far? It’s been over 4 weeks.

  • @Revangelion Can’t find a solution after I got my ps5. apex has not run smoothly at all. Lags and pauses every game. My internet speed and connection is normal. I’m at a loss
