Engine Error: CreateTexture2D crash to desktop

Have been running into this issue since yesterday. It can happen doing any activity, at any time in the game, from initial drop to spectating after death. I have seen other posts with the same error and have tried the CCleaner and uninstall/reinstall Origin, while this clears it up temporarily, it always comes back after about 3-4 games.

Doing some digging, I did find an event in my error log stating that Apex was using up 20GB+ of Virtual Memory and that is why it was shut down. I have attached that screenshot.

Thanks for the help.

  • So this problem has resurfaced again, exact same error message as before. This time the CCLeaner and uninstall/reinstall does not seem to be working, along with repairing the game. I did update drivers. This time though, 3 of the last 4 disconnects have been during initial drop, while the other was about 5 minutes into game. Not sure what else to do with this. Again, event viewer showing Apex using 19GB of virtual memory at time of crash.

So I seem to have fixed this issue for me. I had to increase the amount of virtual memory my computer used for the drive Apex was installed on. I followed the instructions found here:

    https://www.tomshardware.com/news/how-to-manage-virtual-memory-pagefile-windows-10,36929.html

I had to set it pretty high; minimum 15000 MB, maximum 30000 MB

Have not had the issue since. Hope it helps someone else.

I hope someone can look at this because I feel 19 - 20 GB of virtual memory usage is way too high.

  • When I am at my Windows Home Page and I want to go back into the game, I have some high chance that my game crash.

That also happen when I make modification in the "Graphic" setting in the game.

Sometime the crash is so HARD that my entire PC freeze and I need to HARD reset 😢

When I crash a little window says this:

    Engine Error

CreateTexture2D Failed to create texture shadowdepthatlas14 with HRESULT 0x8007000e:

    width: 12288 height: 10240 mips: 1 copies: 1 imgFormat: 0x10 flags: 0x1080000

    PC Spec

    CPU: I7-6700

    GPU: GTX 1080 (latest driver)

    RAMM: 16GB

    Monitor: 1080P

  • I was playing apex legends and the game keeps crashing. normally there is never an error code  until  this one appeared:

createtexture2d failed to create texture precomputed shadow texture with HRESULT 0x887a0005: width 2048 height 2048 mips: 1 coppies: 1 imgFormat: 0x29 flags: 0x1080000

Can you help me fix this?

Do you have samsung ssd rapid mode enabled? If so turn it off..
If you have a nvidia try driver 399.24
Do a clean reboot every time you launch the game (ALT+F4)

This is only suggestions it wont solve your problem necessarily could be another issue
