High GPU usage in Menu

Hello everyone , could not get results anywhere else so chose to post here.

I just returned to Apex this past week but I have been facing an issue. I have tried using every setting but no results.

During the lobby screen and only the lobby screen , my GPU usage goes to consistent 100 and temp start to rise above 80 , this continues until a match is found.

As soon as the match starts the temps drop to 64-66 and GPU usage becomes normal. This only happens during the menu screen of apex due to which I am unable to leave the game open or play on a less populated server ( longer queue = higher temp )

    Hi @XDPhobes

Have you had the chance to try repairing Apex Legends in Origin to see if that helps at all? That can help with a lot of stability issues.

If you right-click on the game in your Origin Library you'll see a Repair option when the menu comes up. If you're still having the same issues after that please let me know. Thanks!

  • @EA_Kent Thanks for replying. I tried the repair option and it has worked for some part , While the temperature still keep rising , now my card controls them through the fan speed and keeps them around the 65 range.

I have also observed that not using V-Sync or using Dynamic V-Sync causes the temperature to go much higher as the card tries to get as much FPS as it can in the lobby screen.

I have to stick to double-buffered V-Sync for normal temps but it is playable.

While the issue was not fully solved, It is good enough that I can play it normally , This can be locked.

  • Try turning off "dynamic spot shadows"

Was the final fix for me at least. Fixed the excessive gpu/cpu load for both ingame and in the menu. To my untrained eye apex executable seems to draw about the same in the menus with "dynamic spot shadows" on as battlefield 5 does with rtx on in the asianstyle maps. We are talking maxed tdp of 300w.

With this "feature" turned off the gpu slows down from 2450mhz at full blast to an easy 1200 ish mhz and a load of 60.80% with the mhz fluxions 200-300 depending on the load. Now that is an incredible drop in power consumption paired with an insane boost in fps. If left uncapped apex will rest at 300 fps constant. with a powerdraw of 190-225w.

So some1 at respawn botched the dss settings for sure. Side by side comparison screenshots are indistinguishable from each other so i don't see the gain here.
