Infinite update loop in EA app

When I try to play Apex Legends it tells me I need to update the game.  I click update and continue and it updates the game.  It finishes and brings up the pop up button saying ready to launch.  But ...

I booted up my apex today to play my daily matches. 

However, it first let me in but nothing was playable for some reason. 
Then I got kicked out of Apex while it said "failed to authenticate anti cheat program". When I tried to re-launch the game, EA said I needed to update, so I proceeded to update, but then the game seemed to get stuck in an update loop. When it said that the update was finished I pressed launch on the nofitication that appeared and then it just started updating again. This process was repeated for 10 minutes. After this I googled the issue and found a fix that had worked for others. The fix itself was deleting the EA app which I did but it didn't help. The updating loop remained. I tried deleting the EA app and reinstalling twice to no avail. I don't know what to do. Please help!
