[PC] Apex Legends Stuttering/Hitching - FPS Drop/Frametime Spike

  • I7-7700
  • GTX 1070ti
  • 16gb Ram
  • Samsung 850 Evo SSD

This game is phenomenal, which is why I am so pissed I can't play it. I honestly wouldn't care if it crashed every other game if it just ran smoothly.

When using MSI Afterburner it shows I am getting FPS Drops and Frametime spikes when these hitches/stutter occur. They can happen several times a game or a ton of them all at once.

Here is what I have done to try to fix this:

  • Launch option to cap framerate - +fps_max 60
  • Launch option for monitor hz - -freq 60
  • Launch option for priority - -high
  • Used display driver uninstaller
  • Geforce drivers - 418.91, 418.81, 417.71, 417.35, 416.94
  • Reinstalled Windows: 1609, 1809
  • Installed all manufacturer drivers
  • Installed the game to NVME SSD
  • Installed Windows to only 1 drive
  • Installed Windows and game to only 1 drive
  • High Performance power mode in Windows options + nvidia control panel
  • Literally every other fix on the discord, forums and reddit.

I am at a legit loss, what the world is going on here. Note this also happens when not using any monitoring programs.

Edit: I spoke with EA support chat, that the response I got from them was actually ridiculous. This is what they provided me as a fix to game stutters. None of the links provided work, they 404. None of the fixes worked/I have already done them all.

    Hello everybody,

after trying so many things I finally found the solution to fix my stuttering problems. After I deactivated IPv6 I had no more problems.

    1. Close Apex.

    2. Go to control panel -> Network Settings -> Adapter Configuration. I'm german so I'm not sure if the translation is right. This is the path in german:

    Systemsteuerung\Netzwerk und Internet\Netzwerkverbindungen

    3. Rightclick on the Adapter of your Internet Connection (mine is called "Ethernet") and deactivate "Internet Protocol, Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)".

    Snapshot in attachements

I hope that helps most of you. Please let me know if it helped you :-)

  • I will test and if positive, I will for sure confirm if it works, since I have tried over 25 different things for frametime spikes as the game is simply not possible to play competitively with frametime spikes that seem to happen as soon as you see an enemy or they see you and bullets come flying and you can barely figure out where from, since it is all laggy!

EDIT:  disabling IPV6 100% did not fix hitching!

dont worry im not able to play this game for half of year normally, stuttering is ruining my aim so bad and they dont give a damn for that

  • Issue has been going on for a few years, I KNOW it's not a PC issue because I have the some problem on XBox and PC. Every new season the game runs great for about a week or two, then just constant stuttering. Something is coded wrong, maybe a cache or something isn't being cleared. They obviously don't care, so many people have had this issue for YEARS and they haven't bothered to fix it, or even take it seriously. They'd rather add new champs and new skins then make the base functionality of the game work properly. That's how you can tell the game isn't made by people with a passion for gaming. I'd never waste my time with another EA product, they just don't care. Another company added to the growing list of companies who have lost their passion for making great games.

I've tried everything, THIS IS HOW YOU ACTUALLY FIX IT!!!! You need an SSD, and then in origin or steam you can move the game onto it without re-downloading. I tried everything, windows and video card optimizations, making sure everything is up to date, everything on low settings, none of it worked. Then I got an SSD, moved game to it, and went into windows advanced settings and put 8000mb minimum virtual memory with 10000 max on the SSD and BOOM GAME RUNS PERFECT NOW!

The game is too big and has to keep accessing HDD, and that doesn't happen fast enough to keep up with the game. You can get a 256gb SSD for around 30$. Game runs smooth as silk now, not one stutter whatsoever.
