Re: Apex freeze 100% CPU Usage

@Jaggho_YTI thought it was the new update as well but i uninstalled it and the problem still happened. so im kinda just lost at the moment. Hopefully the devs will get a patch out with the new update coming out on the 15th.

  • @ohwillyy i've noticed something strange.. 3 weeks ago i've always played batman arkham knight, for fonor and apex legends without any problems (also with at high settings for each one) but after the season 3 update the PC started to freeze.. so the 1° thingh that i've suspected was the new season.. but at the same time there was the release of windows october update and at the same time for honor started to freeze the PC too.. from that moment i've tried everything to repare that but nothing works.. today i've started batman arkham knight with the hope that works.. but during the loading screen it crash to desktop, so i've started a game's file check and the launcher started to download 3GB of game's file missed/corrupted.. this is crazy beacause i've installed batman in August and played it for 120h with ZERO CRASH.. after the download i've started the game and it worked for 10 min before the crash.. after the crash i've got also a freezed BSOD with only the "☹️" emoticon.. so i think that the windows update of october has changed something ino game's directory or windows registry that influence this freeze/crash.. the only thingh that i've not tried for each one games is to unistall and reinstall..

@Jaggho_YT Okay i suspected the windows update at first but then found nobody else that did as me. so I thought to uninstall it and see if that was the problem great but like i said zero results. so i moved on and started looking for other solicitations. Your probably right tho, it has to be the windows update because that's the only thing that changed for me. And then the crashes came. Apex had always ran smooth for me. I ran GTA5 to see if that might crash too because its much more demanding but that ran fine. ive just ran a couple of games of apex for and and 1.5hr with some stuttering and fully expected to crash but no crashing, last night was another story tho. 6 total crash in a span of 2hrs. Windows needs to get there * together lol
Uninstalling and reinstalling the game did nothing for me still had high load on both gpu and cpu.
  • It's not a windows update causing these issues.

It is the Apex patch, it's a known issue and they are working on it.

However there is no ETA more than "in a future patch".

Download Afterburner and cap fps to 120 this has stopped it for me.

Not tried capping at other fps.

  • Possible fix to try especially for 9700K users with 100% CPU Usage and freezing.

This is also happening to me on an RTX 2080 and an Intel i7-9700K on my ASUS ROG STRIX GL12CX. I'm running Windows 10 Home version 20H2 and after looking through reports in the forums I found tweaks/settings that has helped me reduce the frequency of the freezes. Doing the following also reduces CPU Usage during gameplay. The first thing I did was to disable something in Windows called Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. You can find this in newer versions of Windows 10 by right clicking on the desktop and selecting "Display Settings". Scroll to the bottom and select "Graphics settings". Select the toggle to "Off" and it usually asks you to restart your computer. The next setting I turned off is the "Game Mode" which you can find by going into "Settings" > "Gaming" > "Game Mode" on the left hand side. The third setting I turned off is "Background recording". This can be found in "Settings" > "Gaming" > "Captures" on the left hand side > "Record in the background while I'm playing a game". The last tweak that I made for Apex is to set "Launch Options" with +fps_max 144. I play on a 240Hz monitor and doing this significantly reduces CPU usage and prolongs gameplay reducing the chance of freezing. I've tried having the setting on NVIDIA's control panel to set max FPS to 144 but that doesn't reduce CPU usage as much as having this command in Steam's launch options. I believe it works the same in Origin's launcher. The downside is that since it's capped to 144 it feels kinda awkward. I don't know if it's input lag or doing this introduces some sort of latency or visible tearing but doing all of this I was able to play for a long while and haven't frozen yet. I had to adjust to it feeling different. Without these tweaks, I would freeze once or twice per game during anything. Hope this helps some of us until the Apex team fixes this issue in its entirety.

  • I have a 9700K, 2070 super, and asus prime z390 motherboard. 32gigs of ram at 3200 mhz. ever since fight night my game freezes and cpu goes to 100% and i have to bring up task manager and end process. nothing else on computer freezes and no other games have any issues at all. its ONLY apex legends. I have tried everything, reinstalled windows, reinstalled the game, resett all components to stock, tried overclocking again. doesn't matter if it was overclocked or at stock, it still crashed every game. none of the other "fixes" make any difference. however it does NOT crash on my computer with a 9600k and a GTX980. so it seems to be an issue with 9700K and/or 2070 supers (maybe just the RTX series as a whole). im not sure but either way its wild that TONS of people are getting this and EA hasn't fixed it yet. why not just roll back the game to before the update? it was working fine then!

I had the same issue, as stated also in this thread, till today, I tried repair, reinstalling with Origin, tried the EA Desktop Beta, all didn't help.

Today, since I had flickering when another program was open, I did a clean uninstall of nvidia Driver and installed the older version 460.89 so far today no crashes (had 21 crashes until yesterday) will keep you updated if any appears, but so far I played about 10 games and no crash, fingers crossed.

    Ryzen 9 3900x

    RTX 2080 Super

UPDATE: After 20 Games without a crash, I had two today again,... so,...

I haven't had a crash since the update yesterday and played around 10 games (was at something between 30 and 35 crashes, yeah one really stops counting after a time,...), however I also head to reinstall since EA Desktop* wouldn't allow me to update the game. I am back to Origin now.

    * I tried EA Desktop last week to see if this might help after reinstalling through Origin didn't help
