Ummm that is not a brand new computer as you stated. That is a used computer.
I generally do not buy used computers because you do not know what they have been used for in the past or what has happened to them. Hard luck here I think.
Could be that the PC was hardware banned and after you logged in with your account and finished the game the previous hardware ban kicked in and your account got banned. I am not saying this is so but a possibility.
Maybe some sort of cheating software that you did not know about was and still is/was installed on the used PC you bought and that was detected and the cause of that Bann.
I think you should talk with your coworker about this, especially if they are a gamer and find out if they were banned by EA in the past. Especially if it was while they were using the PC you bought from them. Maybe try and get your money back, good luck though as that may be difficult.
