Re: Cannot Launch Apex after Final Fantasy Update 1/9/2024

Hello guys,

it seems that directx12 stopped working with the Ignite mid-season update (at least in my case).

some details:

- EA launcher

- Intel Arc A770 GPU

- always played with directx12 on => Advanced launch option: -eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.json

When the game started (before this update), there was a message on the right bottom corner in the lobby saying its Dx12

Now the message is missing, and the performance is worse (as used to be when I launched the game in Dx11 previously)

Interestingly the "SettingsDX12.json" file is the same (text inside) as the "Settings.json" file.. (jsons here: C:\Program Files\EA Games\Apex\EasyAntiCheat\Launcher)

so it is maybe an error/mistake in this patch(?)

Running the game with "r5apex_dx12.exe" does not show the bottom right dx12 message either.

Will be thankful for any hints/support/help on this.

  • DirectX 12 didn't work for me. I also checked the SettingsDX12.json file ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Apex Legends\EasyAntiCheat\Launcher\SettingsDX12.json") and saw that it said:

    blah, blah, blah 

    "executable": "r5apex.exe"

    I changed "r5apex.exe" to "r5apex_dx12.exe"
    And now DX12 works with -eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.json

    I've never modified that file so I guess it's a mistake on the part of the developers.

  • It just feels weird. I dont know what happened in this update, this update seems set many settings to default

    I check the json files too and they both have the same content

    Hello,

    I tried what you did, namely:

    Edited this file: "...Apex Legends\EasyAntiCheat\Launcher\SettingsDX12.json"

    and "I changed "r5apex.exe" to "r5apex_dx12.exe"

    Now it works when launching with parameter:  -eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.json

    @Respawn: pls include this small correction in the next patch

    I did just launch the game with the newst patch as you did mention and it did resolve the issue mentioned in the post. I hope it will work for others as well!

  • Hi - the patch did not appear to work for me and I do not have an option to enable AES-NI - I would a grateful if you could please continue to investigate.

    Hi @MR_OJR,

    Are you using DX12 or DX11? Do you get any errors when trying to launch the game?
  • Hello - it fails in either DX11 or DX12 - the EA/Respawn logo appears and then black screen with the Apex logo and three stripes in the bottom right corner and then it stops there. I have to force a restart because while it is not loading it makes everything on my computer churn to a halt. Tried to change BIOS settings but the AES-NI option is not available. It looks like quite a few users on Steam having the same problem.

  • Hello - Is there any further support or advice available that you may be able to provide please? I am still unable to load Apex Legends and tried about every thing I can including reinstall / driver updates etc.

  • It seems like a way older problem I have been suffering with no solution. I have the problem since October or November.

    What I found out, if you keep on trying to run the game, sooner or later you will be making progress, and it will start working. After updating the graphic driver, the problem starts again. Strange enough updating Apex Legends does not cause any problem.

    I have the game both in Steam and EA. When the problem is resolved in one platform, it is also resolved at the other platform.
