Re: Not able to play with friend when you're on the same WiFi
Hi @Gyrfried and welcome to Answers HQ!
It's a classic network issue. Your local network or ISP simply have trouble sending the right traffic to the right computer. There are lots of possible solutions, the first one is:
Besides this solutions typically working are:
- Toggling or disabling then re-enabling uPnP in your router
- Disabling router firewall
- Setting up IP addresses manually instead of using DHCP
- Buying static IPs from ISP so each computer have it's own
- Calling the ISP and have them fix whatever issue they were having (typically if you are behind a NAT)
- Upgrading firmware on router/modem
- Buying a new and good router
- One computer using wired connection while the other using the wifi on the router
- Removing a switch from the network
- Have one player play using a VPN
There's also these steps that have worked for some:
1. Log into your modem / router
2. Turn OFF UPNP.
3. Turn off PC UPnP Service:
4. Press: Windows-button a window should pop up. Write: “services.msc” (without the “) then press enter.
5. In the list of services, scroll down to “UPnP Device Host”, click it and press “Stop service”. Now do the same thing but with the service “SSDP Discovery”.
6. Exit the window and go to control panel-> Network and Internet-> Network and Sharing Centre-> Change advanced sharing settings (to the left)-> Under “network discovery” select to turn off network discovery
7. Save your changes
(should either service already be stopped try starting them on both computers and not doing step 6)
