As you mentioned, if you unlink another platform such as Steam from your EA Account, your in-game progress would be lost. 

Additionally, in most cases you're unable to  link another account of the same type to the EA Account. There are a very few specific cases where an advisor may be able to link an additional account if the wrong account was initially linked, so I would reach out to an advisor if that was the case. 

I'm afraid in either case however, your progress cannot be transferred from one account to the next. You can see more details on what you'd lose access to as a result in this article:
