Sound not working with a PS4 controller attached with a headset (PC)

Hello

I play on Microsoft Windows 10, opened the game with a PS4 contoller attached with a headset and the sound stopped working.

I am able to open all other games with sound just fine it's just when I open Apex Legends the sound stopped working until I quit the game and reattach my controller.

Is there a fix for this? Thanks.

I downloaded a PS4 controller software called DS4windows. Not only it allowed me to listen the sound through the controller's headphone input, it allowed me to play with it on other games like Darksiders 3 and Anthem where they don't recognize a PS4 controller. It's a godsend! You should have it installed if you listen through a PS4 controller!

  • I had alot of issues with this too. I found going into Sound settings then scroll to the bottom and clicking Advanced sound options and changing Master volume to Headset Earphone Out/In, then making sure my Apex legends and sound settings were also on Headset Earphones(whatever your ps4 controller name comes up as) Let me know if this works as I did a while bunch of other stuff too

  • I know this was a while ago but I still can’t get any sound using my DualShock 4 on pc when playing apex. Does anyone have an actual answer for this?

  • if your playing apex legends on steam do what i did

firstly go to settings on steam

    secondly go to controller

in general controller settings you will find some setting about xbox controllers and ps4 controllers and switch controllers

choose to do the ps4 configuration support

then after than you can make sure its connected to your controller

then you should be good   (worked for me)

  • in case anyone is still having a problem with this here's the final correct fix procedure

Reason it's not working: Your PS4 controller and your PC's sound driver is conflicting as both hardware is being detected by your system. the solution, is to make sure your PC doesn't recognize your PS4 controller as a sound device.

    1. go to Control Panel

    2. go to Devices and Printers

    3. Right click on Wireless Controller

    (scroll down)

    4. Right click on Headset Earphone and Disable

    5. done

note that your headphones/speakers should be attached to your PC not the controller.

Now that your pc doesn't recognize your controller as a sound device, your regular plug ins wouldwork fine
