Battlefield Going Open World

I am sad that DICE has trained me with the last 2 games to assume the worst whenever I hear that they will go off the beaten path.

I get it they want to attract new customers, but me as an Battlefield veteran wishes they would stick to what worked in the past. Take BF3 and 4, polish it up to nowadays standards in terms of graphics and movement and voila!

Also this: "CEO Andrew Wilson calls upcoming Battlefield game ambitious and a top priority for EA, hinting at big changes"  YAWN! We haven't heard this bs before.

I think Dice has to experiment a bit. The FPS genre lately is very stale. Sameness. 
Maybe a battlefield universe is a good idea. 
They should play it safe though. Make a traditionally safe battlefield game but also make a BR game for revenue. Let the kids run around in silly costumes and spend a ton of money on it. Thank you.

I also would love an open world battlefield game like Red Dead redemption. I could team up with friends go around the map and chose my battles. Have a 'home base' i could defend or take from other teams. Experimenting is a good thing, that is how the BR genre was born and everyone is copying it. 
Of course all this on top of a traditional safe battlefield multiplayer game. 

The MSN article seems to be referring to the single player campaign when talking about open world.

Battlefield Bad Company 1 had an open world single player campaign which I enjoyed.

Open world multiplayer doesn't strike me as something that would work well outside of Battle Royale.

For classic multiplayer modes like conquest and breakthrough. Big maps turn into walking simulators that are too slow pace with long sight lines. This results in frustrating gameplay where players get sniped while trying to run across wide open fields towards the objective.

Eventually players get tired of getting sniped while running across wide open fields towards the objective and go play another game that's more fun and less frustrating.

Warzone was fun/interesting to play and I actually enjoyed Firestorm for what it was so it can definitely be great, but I think they just need to stick with their bread and butter (or at least use different teams but keep continued support).

Single player could work, though there was a decent chunk of the community who said V's campaigne wasn't all that necessary

Kind of disagree or not completely agree with you. This is where vehicle play comes in as the title says it's a battlefield game. I love the fact that you can call in a pond hawk and just hop on it and go wherever I want to go and continue on foot from there. Nothing more boring than a map like Haven or Stadium. Even redacted. (For me)
