Controller PC aim assist

I'm a Battlefield player on Playstation, but would like to switch to PC for the advantage of better performance, etc.

Speaking for myself, I can't imagine playing on mouse and keyboard, especially not for vehicles and therefore have 4 questions:

1. When I use my ps5 Controller on PC or any controller in general, will I still have aim assist?

2. And could someone tell me whether that's actually enough to compete against mouse players?

3.Do I have any disadvantage with my Controller on PC?

4. If I'm using a keyboard for the menu screen (in order to be able to select the vehicles quicker), so the keyboard and the controller are simultaneously connected, do I still get the aim assist for the Controller since that's the input device I'd like to use.

I'd appreciate a quick reply. Thank you very much.

  • @or71z6g6yul1I can’t answer all of that, but I can tell you that you’ll need an XBox controller as PlayStation controllers don’t work easily. You’ll need adapters for ports, I think you need Steam as well. PCs being Microsoft they’re equipped for it. If you want a PC that’s great, but don’t drop $2500+ to build a computer for 2042. It’s not worth it. Long term, a mouse and keyboard will give you slightly better responses and options over a controller.

When battlefield 2042 came out my xbox controller worked fine via blutooth but in December none of the buttons worked i had to buy the official windows adapter for xbox controllers i still use it to this day. On dying light if you use a controller with out the adapter the game will freak out and drop to sub 10fps.

I can switch from keyboard/mouse to controller so like this person said xbox controller is best has way more support on pc but you must get the official adapter now on these new games the controller can be xbox one pad or series pad.

As far as building a rig right now rapter lake am5 socket cpus are coming out same with 4000 series nividea cards and new amd cards so go prebuilt high spec cheap clearance rigs.

You can get a rtx 3060 rig with a intel 12gen cpu at maingear all off the shelf parts for $1400 usd. Lenovo build redux also offer of the shelf parts with cheap 3060 rigs around the same price.

If you want to spend 2500 usd then go maingear again but get the 12700 rig with a 3080 for 2200usd.

I am saying these companies because they offer great warranties have great reputations and the parts can be swapped out. If you go intel 12 gen then next year or year after you can slap in the new gpu's coming out that are pcie 5th gen with ease because intel 12gen boards supporrts pcie 5.0.

Here is the main gear 3080 12700rig in question.

As far as competing with pc players here is a video from season one were i used a controller personally i only fell a dis advantage in netcode and those obvious cronus/mod menu players.

I used a PS4 DualShock to play Battlefield 1 on PC.  I suspect many of my experiences will apply to your situation.

    1. To use my PS4 Controller on BF1 I used a program called DS4Windows. DS4Windows supposedly supports the PS5 controller now too. Also Google tells me that Steam will directly support the PS5 controller.  You can play connected via Bluetooth or a basic USB cable. On BF1 at least if you had your infantry controls mapped to a controller you had the option to use Aim Assist.

    2. Yes.  An experienced controller user w/Aim Assist can compete well against PC users. I played maybe 8 matches with controller on BF1 PC and was MVP in two of those matches (On PS4 I was MVP in 33% of my matches). Aim Assist is at its best in clean CQC engagements and BF1 aim assist feels similar to BF2042 aim assist. Outside of clean CQC fights experienced KBM users will have the advantage.

    3. Controller has some limitations.  Switching seats in vehicles is a chore since you must cycle through all the seats.  Using gadgets, melee, jump, crouch, reload, interact, fire mode toggle will typically require you to take your thumbs off the sticks.  Aim Assist isn't perfect and can get confused. You'll find most of the popular YouTubers that use controller recommend turning Aim Assist snap down to 0.  It's often desirable to lead targets, especially with mid/long range shots on moving targets - aim assist will work against you here. ADAD strafe spam is a bit crisper and more effective with KBM. There's many scenarios where Aim Assist doesn't work (against non-player objects, when using hip fire, gadgets, targeting players mostly behind cover [such as exposed heads, feet, elbows, players inside vehicles). PC players will attribute any and all of your successes to Aim Assist.

    4.  As I recall you can have both hooked up.  Just map your infantry controls to your controller and you'll get aim assist.  All the menus/UI default to KBM.
