Hit registration and Battlefield franchise.

I wonder are my only one suffering bad hit registration in BF2042? ( compared to other games). I've been gaming since castle wolfenstein / Original doom and own about all BF titles. I have decent rig ( 7800X3D, rtx 4070 ( overclocked) with loads of fast memory, fast ssd. I play using low latency fiber conn.

Back in the days battlefield games were fun to play. Now in many of the "lobbies/games" you join hit registration is not in level one can expect in year 2025. When i say bad hit registration; i mean if i shoot with aimed gun into certain position, players can run through the bullet path without getting any hits and they just one shot kill players. Their characted does not even show that they are pointing a gun at you.

In many cases you get shot meters after you have run behind corner. Your body can be recovered up to 10 meters behind 90 degrees corner. Or if you duck down you get still hit one second after beeing in cover for sure.

I wonder do developers realise, that gunplay is THE most important aspect when developing fps games? I guess they dont! Main points in this franchise has been around "flying squirrols" and "low-iq" character lines and charms & cosmetics nobody asked.

I dont even mention cheaters, because back in BF5 era my account got banned for a years from this forum complaining about huge number of cheaters in almost every round.

Yes, i score A LOT more if i turn stupid crossplay off. Only thing is that there is only few servers to play then.

exactly. Problem has been there for a year and they have done nothing but "charms & cosmetics". Accurate gunplay is the most important element of FPS -games. They have failed.

RaginSamBattle(non)sense has a YouTube video showing a test he did in BFV which shows the cause of insta-kills. Basically if the shooter's internet connection has a fluctuating ping time (jitter), they cause insta-kills to the players they're shooting at.

Most consoles connect to the internet using wifi, which causes ping time fluctuations (jitter).

  • For me, it doesn't seem to be tied to the lobbies, but more so certain players. Some people look like they're moving so fast and with such jittery movements, but then when I go watch their stream, they look relatively normal and with tame movement. Nothing fancy or mind bending. I swear some people just get lucky with their connection. Most modern games want to cater to everyone regardless of their internet, so they've become too generous with lag compensation, but they don't care, they don't play.

During the Beta, I still remember being caught off guard by how fast some players were moving. It looked like literal speed hacks. They did something to fix it for the most part, but there's still something off with the movement. Like people's position isn't being updated at whatever rate it has been in the past, which doesn't have to be the server tick rate from my understanding, so it could be much lower than 45 ticks.

I've also died behind cover upwards of two full seconds, and I do mean a full 2000ms.

I'm still convinced there's something up with Crossplay as well. I started a thread wondering if PC players are being put a tick behind console players, because that's what it feels like. I've played against cheaters that were eventually caught in other games that felt more legit than the majority of console players in 2042. That's how bad it is, and I'm using an OLED monitor, playing at 240 fps, with a machine that can run that, yet these guys on console just insta-kill me regularly. No reaction time given whatsoever, we're talking sub 50ms deaths. I now suspect it might be that console players aren't updating their position as often as PC players in order to make the game more playable on console, like I said, they had to cut corners in a lot of places to get to that 128 player count.

I noticed this too. It's like the server is delaying the information being sent to you. Causing you to see everything a half second behind everyone else.

If I get that delayed feeling I'll reboot the PC and rejoin the same server. That usually fixes it.

I think it's a bug in the netcode's lag compensation.

I think this is the real issue consistency is really hit and miss. You never know what will happen from round to round. EA/DICE really need to work on this.

  • One thing that i have been struggling with for a years is difference of gaming experience in different lobbies / game rounds. What i mean by this is that when i start the round, i may not hit anything. I feel enemy kills me before i even see them coming. I feel they one shot kill me every time. In next round or if i quit the round and take another i score normally and be one of the best ones playing. Gaming experience is not constant. This game engine in whole is actually quite poorly executed. I really hope EA/Dice really gets professional resources dealing BF6.

  • i really hope this matter is addressed in BF6 ! Gameplay "leaks" show very promising, what comes to athmosphere. Back to like BF/BF4 kind of warfare. Lets hope netcode is now leveled up to 2025 ! Now gaming experience is not constant - in some rounds hit-regs are decent - but mostly horrible - there are players who enter room, headshot two and warp away without getting any hits. You can be sure that they are hit big time, but game does not register it. Daily there are rounds / lobbies, where like five first bullets hit to enemies are not counted at all.  Hits just disappear. You get killed yourself inside one frame.  Also sounds ( guns, vechiles, footsteps) have been broken for a years. You cant "feel" what happens around you most of the times. Its just poorly executed.

Explains a lot, had mystery bullets galore.

  • The netcode in 2042 took multiple steps backwards compared to the netcode in Battlefield 1.

DICE hired an outside contractor to code the netcode for Battlefield 1. After Battlefield 1 his contract ended and he no longer maintains the netcode.

The netcode has been going downhill with Battlefield V and 2042 because the contractor who created the netcode no longer works for EA/DICE.

Here's a few videos showing how bad desync issues have become in Battlefield games.
