- 4 years ago@ReconAvenger I mean I'm happy that you're enjoying it, but why pay full price for a new game only to play the older games that came with it? Seems pretty scummy as a business practice. Then again most video game companies are just focused on squeezing the most money for the least amount of effort and * over the very people who made the franchise popular in the first place.

In fact, I had written off BF2042 after seeing the initial gameplay but that all changed when they revealed Portal.
You do realize BF2042 is still part of Portal, right? It isn't just about playing "the older games". Yes, Portal contains assets, maps and even mechanics from BF2142, BF3 and BFBC2 in a new, updated format but also 2042. You can even choose options that were never available in those original titles. Many like me really enjoyed some of those titles and welcome their return but also are excited to customize our own Experiences.
As for the OPs concerns, I'll wager DICE is already beginning to give some serious thought to some of these as there seems to be a lot of backlash. I wouldn't doubt some of them are reintroduced at some point.

@ZappBranniginEh, people often pay for remastered/updated/remake versions of old games. Look at Demon Souls or Resident Evil 2. If I had it my way DICE would've just made "Battlefield Portal" that housed a bunch of fan favorite maps from past games, rather than what we got as a whole in 2042.
Maybe throw in BC1 and BC2 campaigns and have this hypothetical game be a prelude to BC3.
EDIT: Additionally...I wouldn't say Portal is playing "older games" I'd say it's playing legacy maps/weapons on a brand new engine. Kinda like how BF3 had Back to Karkand or BF4 had Second Assault.- 4 years ago@ReconAvenger Yeah I honestly would have prefered that to. I have played a ton AOW and have been enjoying it, but I would have prefered if they would have remade a ton of the old maps in portal instead of AOW.
Instead we just ended up with 2 sepperate modes that just feel half assed. The maps on AOW were clearly build with Hazard zone in mind, and the weapons are terrible. There like 4 weapons worth using in AOW
Portal is great, at least what is there, but the problem is that there's damn near no content in Portal atm

Really disapointed with the game overall.
Servers issues, fps issues, connection issue etc.
The technical point is miserable. Instead of pushing for the release best way would be to take a few more months to make a good game from this (if its even possible)
No server browser, no votemap, the scoreboard is a joke tbh, specialist system is completly broken, gunsmith (if we can even call it like this) is completly basic, no depth in upgrading weapons.
Feels much more like some chinese battlefield copy pasta than a true battlefied.
Also already spotted some cheaters so nice easy anticheat.

Re-posting from another thread I commented on, but the title of this thread seems like this is a more more appropriate place to post:
Yeah—really trying to like the game, but it’s just disappointing. I can understand bugs, especially in the beginning—seems like par for the course these days. It’s sprawling and looks pretty great, but it seems to be big for the sake of being big or just to say ‘hey we can fit more people on a map than the other guys’—problem is everything is so desolate and buildings/structures seem like models. Takes a lot out away from the atmosphere when every building has zero character.
The specialists—man, they have taken a lot away from what defined battlefield with its squad play. I understand it ‘could’ work, but right not it doesn’t seem to in my experience.
I could probably keep complaining, but the bottom line is I could give a * about tornados if the core gameplay doesn’t jive with what makes battlefield great—just disappointed.
- 4 years ago@ReconAvenger Portal is cool and all, but will they add new maps and content to that mode aswell? That mode will get boring withing a month or two without content, just saying
