NFT cosmetics

Hey community!

This is just an idea, so bear with:

A thought I had was to allow content creators to be able to create decals, custom content for weapons, vehicles and clothing which would be peer reviewed by a team of moderators at EA/Dice.

The process of minting would need to be ironing out, either using a third party company or handled internally by EA.

The item could then be worn in game by the owner only. Imagine a trading platform for BF content side loaded which players could buy and sell skins for weapons, clothing. Making your presence unique and truly yours!

EA/Dice would charge a fee for the privilege of adding content and the minting fee would be additional too.

This already exists within a few virtual worlds. See Decentraland (life sim), and ReadyPlayerMe (wearables) as examples of this technology being actively used and developed.

Even if it was just selecr brand companies only who could make the NFT's and players could then purchase the cosmetic item from a store.

Just my two cents. Lots of technical considerations of course.

Thoughts? Please feel free to reply.

Thanks

Yes all good and agreed upon @ragnarok013 !

We all observed the immature players showing up with those deplorable emblems not conforming with the otherwise generous TOS.  And as running a server, i got very frequent angry players who wanted me to get rid of such immature players who showed up with problematic emblems attached...

What @trokey and I suggested was that EA could simply just have a standard box of available emblems for everybody to choose from.  But on top, also have the options for clans and other players to submit UGC emblem for EA approval.  This for a transactional fee, of course.  And upon approval, then the players/clans could equip their own homemade emblem to their soldiers.  That I think could have been a nice gesture, and definitely something that many many players/clans would have liked/appreciated.

@CyberDyme As a community/event admin I think that system would be excellent and a solid compromise for communities if the emblem could not be changed without another EA review.

    Exactly @ragnarok013 ,

It can 'technically easily' be implemented by EA adding an encrypted digital watermark into the emblem file.  So any editing of the graphic afterwards will make it obsolete as aka the checksum bits of the graphic no longer matches the issued digital watermark that the EA emblem handlers generated and added to the digital file when issuing the approval.  The EA tech team would know well how to enable such function.

But we would of course need to have some (or all) of the beloved Battlelog coming back then?  😎

    • To create emblems for approval.
    • To loadout our soldiers/specialists, so we wouldn't need to sit and fiddle with that, while in the gaming itself.
    • To setup/join clans.
    • To check our soldier's progress through the ranks.
    • To see the stats from last game round.
    • To plan what assignments we are still to embark on.
    • To study weapon and vehicle stats, and our progress to unlock accessories for them.
    • To check who we we have knifed the most of our friends!
    • Etc etc etc...  😃😃😃😃😃

Well it appears I was right at least in respect to NFTs as a whole.

EA are planning to bring NFT to there portfolio going forward, Fifa as a starting point.

    Let's see where that goes!

    Thanks

@Threedog1421 Are we talking about the emblems still in use in BF4 in such creative and mature ways?

If so, i say Good Riddance!

@IICookieGIII think your idea is really great, the main point being the use of both NFT and creator content (and not player content).

There are a lot of talented digital content creator out there that could get make more or less of a living by doing exclusive/customised, high quality cosmetic content for the players to buy.

Using NFT, you make sure it's unique, watermarked, and non-modifiable, while securing the $$$ part of the deal.

Using professionals content creators (that have to go throught a validation process and have an official "shop" in-game), you make sure no creation is low grade, not compliant (like Nazy/hate/sexual content... I hear you on that) or have an impact on the game (like ultra low-viz or other game altering, borderline exploit content).

@ragnarok013I hear you, I have played long enought to know how nightmarish handling the community can be if you give them too much freedom.

That's where CookieG idea shine ; you're not ! You're giving freedom to professional content creator, that have to abid to the rules or lose their shop (and income)

A little team of curator/admin would suffice to monitor their shops, and as a creator becomes known/prolific, you can start checking less and less on them (they know the rules, they are not gonna break it if they lose $$$).

Sure, their would be a point to monitor: the volume of creation ; it would be a good think to limit, at first, the shear volume of content a creator can publish, and make content review mandatory before putting it on sale.

It would help to "ease in" the rules on the new creator, make sure everyting is under control and understood, before" letting go of the leash".

Sure, it would be another cashcow, but anyway, EA is gonna seek for such income sources (the CoD-way some would say).

At least, part of that money would go to content creators, and give the community an alternative to "official" content.
