@IIPrest0nII Is standard mode dead if portal is successful and core is successful though? I mean, portal or core, it's still battlefield, just with fundamentally different soldier concepts.
While i don't want either to fail as such, i know i want one of them to succeed more than the other, but i also don't "hate" what the specialists bring to the table.
I'm simply not a fan of specialists in stock battlefield, everything they do could have been done with the old "you're one of many" system but throwing specialist gadgets/abilities in via a new gadget slot, but i think we have what we're getting for a reason.
I do think specialists make 100% sense in HZ, and zero issues with them in that context, but i certainly don't want HZ to be the direction for the franchise going forward either, I'd rather they spin it off to it's own game like warzone for CoD, but Dice went all in and threw it all into one package, probably causing the bleed-over of specialists into core BF (and probably with full intent to make HZ more tempting to try by stuffing the specialists into core)
Without linking HZ to core, they'd have a fresh game without a fanbase and they don't own a clancy license, so it'd be "just" another modern-based shooter royale variant (i know it's more tarkov meets dark zone from divsion meets showdown) in a saturated market with no established fanbase to help prop up the numbers at the start.
After seeing the portal drop that opinion has gained a bit more traction for me, if i was forced to guess portal was the result of the internal dialogue about the direction of the game from those who didn't wan to to risk the franchise on a complete refit, and HZ is probably a combination of a deal to use the BF franchise name for a new concept that ended up needing more "backing" and as such, the great experiment began, and i think portal is the result of internal division about taking the game in the direction we see now.
Complete and utter speculation mind you, and though i would love to know if this speculation is somewhere near the truth i doubt we'll get a clear answer.
If we want to spin this in a positive light rather than the standard dislike for specialists in core/dislike for old classes division though, we ended up (seemingly, hard to say for sure until launch) getting both worlds instead of just one or the other, and i think that was a very good idea from Dice (or whichever studio pushed for the inclusion of portal).
I also don't think core/HZ tanking will kill the franchise at all, i think that'll only be a possible outcome if *all* modes tank completely, something i don't think will happen.
Though i think it a lot more likely that HZ will get a standalone client that'll go F2P at some point if it turns out to have enough traction on it's own.
