- Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace@AristarhUcolov2 Perhaps, just perhaps, the computing power to run up to 64 Artificially Intelligent bots is beyond the capability of many PCs and current consoles and therefore has to be hosted on an online server?
Just a wild guess but perhaps...... - ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Trokey66 So cap the bots at 32. Shrink the map. Turn off progression. Done.
- @Trokey66 Yes, I have known this since the days of Battlefield Bad Company 2. The computing power of the consoles is too weak. Battlefield Bad Company 2, 3,4,1,5 was supposed to have a bot. But bots from BF 1/5 were moved to Battlefront II. At the same time, everything is stable for consoles. Chris accentuated correctly, but they can limit the number of bots in offline mode. Battlefield 2042 will support AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution including PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC.
- @ChrisAWJBethel Yes, it removes the conflict between consoles and pc. At the same time, autonomous mode would not create a conflict between consoles and pc. It would be stable and everyone would play every day..
- tyl04135 years agoSeasoned Veteran@Trokey66 Even if that was true which it isn't, they should put it in there anyways so when hardware gets there we can play the game forever without having to rely on EA wanting to keep the game servers open.
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@tyl0413 Like I said to Trokey, all they need to do is shrink each map, cap the bot count at 32-40, and disable progression. They did it for Battlefront II- why can't they do it now?

We need dedicated offline mode and it can be with disabled progression, if that is the problem.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 has it. I mean a lot of fans have been asking for this for years, so why they do not add it at some point? Is the reason that they want to have a kill switch to force people to buy new game when they turn off servers?
- Jesse1655 years agoSeasoned Ace
@TerofishyIt probably will be offline eventually like it was added in Battlefront 2. Just not at launch.
- tyl04135 years agoSeasoned VeteranAnthem was gonna be a good game just not at launch
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Jesse165 Keep in mind people said the same thing about Battlefield V (I think).
- Jesse1655 years agoSeasoned Ace@ChrisAWJBethel Yea but that one only had the War Stories (that can be played offline) and the Combined Arms missions. It's bots were never made for the multiplayer modes to begin with.
2042 is different and like Battlefront 2 they could make them available offline later after we see how they are in the online matches. Having bot support without offline support is the most pointless thing ever.
The whole purpose of having bots is to provide a fallback mode, a way to play the game if the servers are down or if you have connection issues. The pandemic made things much worse as far as internet traffic and routing because of a lot more people working from home.
Not having an offline mode means that we are dependent on factors (like routing or server availability) that are completely outside of our control.
Not having offline support also decreases the perceived value of the game because it essentially has a kill switch at its core. I personally consider the lack of offline support deeply anti-consumer.
It turns games into perpetual rental services, it puts an expiration date on them.
Depressing time to be a gamer, honestly. Instead of being excited about new releases these days the first thing that comes into my mind is "what's the catch? what did they screw up this time?"

@Trokey66 I highly doubt that processing power of modern computers is a limiting factor.
We were playing onslaught with 32 bots in Unreal Tournament 2004, almost 20 years ago with single core CPUs.
And before you dismiss the AI, just consider that the game had vehicular combat with both ground and air vehicles as well as objectives and a power node network that needed to be conquered, linked up in the correct order and defended in order to gain access to a final reactor that needed to be destroyed.
The same was true for Unreal Tournament III from 2007.
If single core CPUs from 2004 could handle this gracefully, I'm sure today's CPUs would handle 128 bots without much difficulty.
Even if that wasn't the case. the number of AI could be reduced to a more manageable level for self hosted OFFLINE matches vs. bots.
Excuses like these really don't hold up to scrutiny in a world with multi-core CPUs with hyperthreading.
- @Strelok_1284 I totally agree with you. I really wish they plan to add dedicated offline mode at some point.
Having an offline mode to play with AI wouldn't hurt anyone who owns the game and has an internet connection all the time so I don't see why a certain group is against it. It's such a shame to see people against something just because it's something that wouldn't benefit them. It doesn't hurt them either so I don't see what the issue is.
This wouldn't really affect me because I probably would have my internet connection (hopefully) on even if I'm playing bots but I can see how it benefits a lot of people. I would assume the internet connection is just to tie this mode to the game's progression system (and possibly have some achievements around it) and to prevent users from using a cracked version of the game and play vs AIs for free (though I'm not sure if it actually deters them)
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Jesse165 What makes you say that? I'm optimistic about offline bots in Battlefield again, but DICE just doesn't get it. As soon as they moved to the Frostbite Engine they (intentionally) engineered an environment in which offline play would be infeasible.
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Strelok_1284 Exactly. This is one of the core reasons why gaming is CTD. Hopefully DICE can come to their senses and implement offline bot support post-launch.
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Trokey66 Thank you. We were getting tired of your bigotry.
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Strelok_1284 Yeah, That's what they did in Battlefront II. And they shrank the maps to accommodate for the reduced bot count!
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@FireExhauster Finally! Someone gets it! Though I wonder why a person would pirate a game that has offline bot support.
- Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace@ChrisAWJBethel Bigotry? Grow up!
- Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Strelok_1284Doubt or know?
Whilst yes, computers are developing at a pace, comparing 2004 era 'bots' to artificial intelligence that will allegedly learn is a bit of a stretch.
Fact is there are numerous reasons why there won't be an offline mode with 'bots' but you guys fail to accept any of them, simply kissing them off to continue your self entitled demands for it.
I care not a jot for such a mode as I am unlikely to play it and it wouldn't bother me if one is eventually included, I am simply being realistic and open possible on reasons why it is not included.
There will be technical, planning, resource and/or financial reasons why but you lot seem to think it has been excluded just to hack you off. - ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Trokey66
