Update 3.0.0 and the death of snipers.

Hey there EA Dice Team,

Firstly, I just want to say how much I've enjoyed this game since it's initial release. Despite all the problems it's had and backlash you've faced as a team, it's come a long way and for whatever it's worth, your team has done a bang up job at making a game I, and many others, will keep coming back to.

Update 3.0.0 introduced some great changes but also one change in particular that was both a little surprising and also, quite frankly, like a huge punch to the gut for me (any many others I'm sure).

Removed the 1x Body Shot range on SWS-10 to match the change on the GOL

The SWS was hands down my favorite gun in this game. After the DXR got that odd chamber delay way back pre season 1 to reduce it's fire rate, and the GVT 45-70 was nerfed into the ground for close range encounters, the SWS was the only choice for snipers who enjoy playing aggressively. But now even that is no longer an option.

The challenge in using the SWS aggressively for the most part was reacting faster than the opposition while maintaining a fair level of accuracy (and this is just talking under 20m).
Often times if you fluffed your first shot you'd get rinsed by whichever automatic weapon you'd come up against so it was either land a shot or die - obviously the automatic weapons are a lot more forgiving in missing a shot. This is what made using it fair and balanced if you opted to bring it into a close-range encounter, or were forced into a close-range encounter (which happens all. the. time.) If one guy comes up against 5 guys and manages to land 5 shots (bolt action, I might add) before being killed by a rain of hell-fire, to me, that kinda seems like he's earned it.

To use it effectively now against multiple enemies you'd have to land consecutive head-shots (I'm sure you know that's no easy feat.) because remaining undetected when the guy you've just killed has pinged you is nigh on impossible.

I understand the intention for snipers is to use them for medium to longer range engagements - where they are supposed to have their advantage, but to be entirely stripped of the choice or capability to play aggressively with them feels like a step in the wrong direction. The nature of the battlefield is unpredictable and hanging out on the fringes and picking enemies off is not where the party is at - nor does it feel as rewarding. Now it feels more like being forced to play a certain way, or like being punished for enjoying being an aggressive sniper main / being too close to the engagement as a sniper.

Anyways, I don't know that this thread will even be read but I just felt I had to say something. This is the only feedback I've given on this game because honestly, to me, it's been a treat up to now. This one hits home though.

Regards,
A defeated and deflated BF fan.

@InS_Hypno My problem is that most of the games balancing is rock-paper-scissors and this is not really rock-paper-scissors.

Sniper-rifles are long/medium range weapons and making them into 'ghetto-shotguns' are giving them an advantage compared to other guns. Why shouldn't an SMG be able to one-shot kill with a headshot at any range then (it still has lower bullet velocity, worse optics etc etc)?

Most "snipers" doesn't really PTFO anyway, and this way of balancing just adds to the frustrating game-play in BF2042. Play CQC use the right tool.
