Was BF2042 originally developed as a Hero Shooter?
I have been thinking about this for awhile and after seeing the info on this previously, I think the theory has legs.
Based on the Specialists, lack of classes and scoreboard, other missing BF elements, and some of the map designs, it really feels like they were developing towards a Hero Shooter with modes like Hazard Zone and then tried to convert back to traditional BF in the last year. That's why everything feels so rushed and so many core elements are missing.
We play as No-Pats but are on the US or Russian faction. Irish is American but can play on the Russian faction? Boris is Russian and he can play on US faction? Why or how is that possible? It is if they made the Specialists and maps before the factions. Square peg, round hole.
The whole working remotely for developers is a bogus excuse from EA. With Zoom calls and constant mobbing, dev teams can be just as effective and efficient working remotely. I just think that is a convenient excuse. Most studios have satellite offices anyway. Like how does that prevent a scoreboard, platoons, VOIP, and a server browser from being implemented upon release? We can't even switch teams or squads! There are just so many core BF elements missing it's mind boggling.
Even most of the map designs are off. It's like they were made for other game modes and hastily made to fit Conquest, Rush, and Breakthrough.
I could go on and on, but the theory makes sense. So why release a half baked game? Earnings calls. They needed the pre-order money in the quarter leading up to the release and couldn't afford to delay it otherwise they would've lost millions in refunds and even more in stock value.
Thoughts?
