I saw there was a rumor about a new map “exposure”. I just hope that’s not the only map we get for season one. Ideally I’d like 2 new for 2042 and 2 for Portal each season. im looking at all the maps BF4 had(34) and I know at this point that could be too much to ask. I hope we at least get MULTIPLE maps each season. We should have 20 something maps at least I feel like.I’d love to have 30 but I doubt that’s going to happen at this point with the seasons being pushed back and the map reworks being done.

@CyberDyme You are correct. the 1 map only came from that data leak. But dice never said anything so we are just assuming. Considering past DLCs had a min of 4 new maps each, it was or is an easy thing to expect. Of course this is a different Dice and i expect nothing good.

And, as I have said before and will say again here: map designers are NOT the people working on the engine or core game logic and they already said that they will make changes to existing maps only after S1 is released. They might be non-responsive to player requests here (see our proposal for bringing persistent servers), but they are not stupid (I'd hope) and know that maps is the one thing that the game needs most to get some players back. Anything less would be suicide at least for this iteration, maybe for the franchise (if it can be saved at this point)

If ya'll think you will get 4 new maps in the Summer...lol. Not going to happen. Since the release, what really new content did we get? No, silly santa skin dont count. Scoreboard? Come on. Zero REAL content has dropped so far. Zero. nada. They have no motivation to bring us game changing new maps. The 1 year pass didn't say how many maps so sure, they will do the bare minimum of course to avoid lawsuits. No game release has gotten under my skin as 2042's. (as you can tell). I wanted it to be great. It just isn't and it will never be.

We have 1 new map in the pipeline, so hopefully that will see the day come this summer.Interesting is btw also the chats we have had with some of the old BF3/BC2/BF4 map designers (a few of them also made maps for BF1 and V) and they were very clear that they would typically need just around 10-12 weeks to develop a new map from scratch in their map design group of a handful of good folks there!A lot of the design components are these days easy to copy and paste from prior map work into a new map. But the ground work still needs to happen first of course with the core purpose, theme, visual features and key elements of that new map. Block version made. Then the hard surface stuff and sculpting the organic/dynamic elements. The map geometries may need some reiterations until we get to a fun gameplay and flow on the map. E.g. a high poly version of the initial blocked one... When most assets have been added then the detailed art pieces can start to replace the proxy art, so the lead artists can make final review and approve for release. The trick is to allow the artists and the game designers the freedom they should each have without limiting each other from succeeding with their purpose. The BF2042 maps screams to heaven that this standard way of working for quality map output was not done.Like where is all the artwork on the Hourglass map? Its a near barren map. Where is all the debris from the societies that have all broken down and made us all no pats?Instead most maps looks like newly built but still empty pristine cities.

@WedgeTornado They've already announced the scope of content for seasons.

1 map and specialist per season, a few more guns, and some vague "new content" for Portal and "more fresh content" for AOW, whatever that means.

@edgecrusherO0 That’s nowhere near good enough imo. So 4 seasons gives us 4 maps total maybe 5? So (11/12)plus portal 6= 17-18?

That’s no where near enough considering 6 of them are portal maps. That’s less than BF5 has which had the plug pulled a year after release.

I’m expecting a solid 25 at minimum at the end of this games life.

Also wish there only being 19 guns in this game I expect multiple guns released each season. Bf4 had nearly 100.

We should have 4 new for the base and 4 for portal each season at least. A couple here and there ain’t going to cut it.

@WedgeTornado 4 maps, plus they're reworking Kaleidoscope (and apparently ONLY that map) during S1, so the other 6 maps will not see significant changes by then. Best we can assume is that by the end of Season 7 that they'll have finally improved the original maps.

And I agree, especially for a game that launched without a campaign and that had 4 studios working on it (with Ripple handling Portal), this is an absolute dearth of content for a game we were told would have tons of content at launch and a lot more coming.

Four maps is a lot to do every 3 months (which is apparently roughly how long seasons will run), and the bigger problem is the lack of initial content the game shipped with. For not having a campaign, which is hugely resource and time intensive to create, it should have had at least 1.5x the number of maps/guns MINIMUM.

But sadly DICE is still choosing/forced to work with the Frostbite engine which is reportedly a nightmare to do anything with and prone to breaking in the development environment. So with the poor tools available this seems to be the best they can do, which is a shame because the franchise deserves better.

It's only one "new" map. There should be more Portal maps added but unrelated to the new BF2042 map.
Pretty crazy to think, if they only have 4 seasons, BF2042 might end with only 11 maps 18 months after launch. I think BFV launched with 9 and has either 19 or 20 now, BF1 launched with 9 maps and ended up with 29.

@Adamonic And both BF 1/V had campaigns, too. Sure they were fairly short affairs, but I enjoyed the hell outta them both. It's wild that both games still launched with more maps and guns than BF2042's core mode did.

Yeah Portal exists and all, but it's essentially a different game and was created by a different studio, and should have been "additional content" to the core AOW content rather than taking away from that core content.

@Adamonic 11 base game maps plus 6 portal(technically are maps they designed too) so 17. If we get a messily 1 map per season.

@WedgeTornado Portal was handled by Ripple, which was created by Vince Zampella. My understanding is they handled that mode largely on their own, with DICE/Criterion/another support studio working on AOW/Hazard Zone.

This is the thing thats outrages.
BF 3 or 4 DLCs came with 4 new maps and a ton of other stuff. These days content isn't king anymore yet they charge the same price. Hell, the other BF games had a single player on top of that. Its just lazy considering none of the maps have any textural detail, nor any levolution. If they had a crazy amount of next level destructions (like they claimed in 2020) maybe this would be ok but as it is, its not. And i don't understand how not more people are outraged about it.
For the same price, Cp2077 comes with i dunno, over a 100 weapons, tons of cars, tons of missions and a whole detailed city. Granted its not MP but bang for the buck (minus bugs of course) is there. I clocked in 185 hours til finish. That's a lot of single player for the money. Consider that an average movie ticket is $18 bucks and the movie is 2 hours long, 59 bucks for 180 hours of entertainment is really good.
However in 2042 case, they regressed in every aspect. Whether that's map detail, levolution, destruction, hell they even didn't think we care about persistent servers, voice chat, squad management etc.
No one wants another specialist. Personally, i want what was promised and advertised. Hell even the 2042 Art uses a generic soldier. Dice have lost their marbles. Sorry. This game is DONE.
