Battlefield 2042 Cross-play Pc to Xbox/PS5 does not work…

The issue myself and many members of this community are having is that PC players cannot connect to Xbox or PlayStation friends online.

I bought this game years ago, didn’t have time to play it. Some other friends and I decided to redownload it and give it a go.

To our disappointment, we found all PC players could connect to one another, all PlayStation players could connect to one another, even all Xbox players could connect to one another. However we could not connect to anyone outside our console or platform type.

Initially, we started to add each other as friends because it showed our cross platform friends as 0 friends online despite the EA Launcher displaying 15+ friends on the game…

[you can login to the EA app on a PC via your friends info and add each other if your friends don’t play PC]

Now that we’re all friends the issue still persists that we see 0 friends online unless they are playing on PC through Steam?..

For Xbox users, even playing on PC via Xbox game pass did not work, only other Xbox console players can connect to Xbox consoles. Our PlayStation and PC friends do not see the Xbox users online.

For PlayStation users, it’s the same issue as the Xbox players. PlayStation players cannot connect to PC or Xbox players even if they are already friends.

Basically. If you play on a console you cannot see your PC friends online and vice versa. Many can’t even find the other person by searching with their EA ID. It just says person does not exist. PC players can use the EA app launcher to add that way, however console players are forced to ask their PC friends to login with their information to accept the friend request. Even after becoming friends all party members still cannot see each other online to invite or join the party. Only same platform players can connect to one another.

Some of us have played EA games with one another before. Some of those same members have also played Battlefield games together prior to this post. Some of us are already added as friends. So why can’t we find one another? Why can’t we invite the other to the game?

During my ridiculous hours of research on this issue I found many stating check your game version. So we did that too… We are all on the same game version.

Before you ask,

I am on PC, formerly an Xbox player.

My friends are on Xbox and PC.

My EA account was made on an Xbox,

I then transferred my account to PC.

I have also linked all possible platforms other than PlayStation to my EA profile. My friends have done the same.

PlayStation users even made Xbox accounts to link to their EA profiles.

All parties have logged into Origin, EA, Xbox, Steam, Email… etc etc. Linked all accounts possible.

All settings that should be enabled for cross-play have or already are enabled.
All privacy settings are set to open and available.

All of us are friends and added.

All of our internet connections are on Ethernet and we all pay for premium internet.

Even though we did a fresh download initially we have all un-installed the game and re-installed the game several times.

All members have cleared cache on all platforms and consoles.

All members have logged out and back in.

All members have tried rebooting and checking file integrity.

Despite wasting more time on a game that abandoned crossplay as an option 3 years ago when this problem first arose. We have no clue how to resolve this issue.

We are looking for an actual solution, please do not respond with sarcasm or anything that is not helpful towards resolving this issue. Thank you in advance.

  • I was certain I stated above all necessary settings that were needed are enabled.

  • All of my friends are using Series X/S and PS5’s most recent consoles. All PC players are running specs perfectly equipped to handle all work loads. The versions were all using of the game are the same versions.

In that case the first thing I'd double check is, since there are two versions of the game on console, that everyone on PS5 and Xbox Series are using the PS5/Xbox Series version and not the last gen one.

  • It turns out one of my friends was on the wrong version and the other PlayStation members just uninstalled and gave up on the game all together. Thank you for trying to help us out.
