Battlefielf 2042 is laggy with good ping and fps

Hi. I've been playing this game since launch once in a while and since I remember this game's always been a laggy experience. Within season 2 coming out I'd like to play it more often, but every match I get it's uncomfortable to play because it's laggy even though my ping is always good (around 30-35ms) and my FPS is always 50+. It's the only Battlefield game with this kind of issue. BFV, 1 and any else run smooth with no problems whatsoever. The game just feels like my ping is two times bigger than it actually is, I can feel I have less chances in 1v1 fights and overall everything feels slower, lagged. Please, if anyone can help me, I'd be grateful cause I really want to enjoy this game.

  • Hey, @Nawishh  can you try a clean boot to see if any programs are messing with Battlefield 2042 and turn off any overlay programs, such as Discord or Nvidia experience.

Can you add a Dxdiag so we can see what hardware and drivers you have?

Let me know if this works or not for you. 🙂

  • Same.

I get 100 to 200 fps and still feels laggy.

I can see motion blur even at lowest settings playing on RTX 3070.

There is something just wrong about the PC versions.

Dont listen to the EA help here. They'll tell you to restart your computer and reinstall windows and change your bed sheets and get remarried.

All games in the EA catalog running under the frostbite engine have been experiencing the same bugs : slow menus, huge latency in solo mode and more! EA will tell you this is your TV or another excuse meanwhile they are aware of the situation! (same for playstation who will say you are the first people that point out this bug). According to an article ( translated from Frecnh by google : https://www-gamekult-com.translate.goog/actualite/mais-bon-sang-c-est-quoi-le-probleme-avec-frostbite-et-electronic-arts-3050817023.html?_x_tr_sl=fr&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=fr&_x_tr_pto=wapp )

I suggest you to read it, it’s really interesting and it helps to understand why there is so many problems with those games under the Frostbite engine.

Regarding the extreme latency for the menus, it could be explained both because of how Frostbite is designed and the fact developpers are facing an engine that is not well documented (fact mentionned by the above article)!

Indeed, “The Frostbite Engine is a multiplayer FPS engine. The whole basic architecture is defined around a client-server system. If you want to make a single player game, the engine forces you to do three times more things than necessary You will do more work because the architecture asks you if you want to run such and such thing on the client or on the server. If it runs on the server, the engine will ask you how to manage the latency, how to fix for bad network between clients - what players call netcode. All of these things will get in your way in your implementation phase.

A french streamer, Lusty, already reported that many users got slow menus on Madden 2023, a game running under Frostbite.. sad news. We expect better on FIFA 23. We hope…

  • we also have graphical bugs such as motion blur on the ball on FIFA by example, especially when the ball hit the net. You can see this in my video. all games under the frostbite engine suffers from the same bugs.

And it's not related to the PC version, it's all platforms. We are on the same boat : buggy unplayable games under the frostbite engine.

  • I got the exact same problem. 30ms ping, 50+ fps, but it feels like I am playing with 200ms. BF1 and BFV runs perfectly, it is only game on which I got this kind of issue. I want to play more often to the game since I bought it 2 years ago, but every time this lag makes me quit.

  • Have you tried setting high priority for the bf2042.exe application ? Believe that the priority option for the game gives a lot.

these commands entered in user.cfg also helped me a lot with game freezes

    Thread.ProcessorCount 12
    Thread.MaxProcessorCount 12
    Thread.JobThreadPriority 1
    GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 12

I entered the number of threads of my processor in place of 12.

If u have Nvidia, try set this in control panel of Nvidia

In my case it solved problems in all games with lag. In the default mode, i.e. , "Optimal Power", Nvidia clocks too slowly to the dynamics of entertainment, which causes lags.
