BF2042 using 100% of CPU while the GPU is running at 7%

I played BF2042 Since the Open Beta and the game uses 100% of the CPU.

My specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600

GPU: RTX 3080

RAM: 16GB 3200Mhz

Storage: 970 Evo Plus 1TB

I get about 47 to 59 FPS on lowest settings even with DLSS set to Ultra performance.

And tried to play on 720p and the frapes still the same.

I know there is a bottleneck between the CPU and GPU but not that huge.

I played a lot of 2021 AAA titles and never experienced this.

  • I got it working!!!!!

Turn off FUTURE FRAME RENDERING !!!!!

I have made a ton of tweaks here and there, but the biggest problem is this one setting.

    Go to:

    • Options
    • Display
    • Video
    • near the bottom is FUTURE FRAME RENDERING
    • Turn it OFF

I have been able to play and it's not bad at all.  This one setting is really hard on your pc's CPU.

There are times when I've been playing fine, and one day it's crap again.  I go and check, and somehow this one feature was turned back on.    I turn it off, and I can play again.

  • Thanks for a useless answer to real issues we are all having. What is a way that actually works to not put our CPU's in overdrive and burn them up???? This game has been a disgrace to the BF franchise since you jackasses put it out.

i have fixed on my cpu Ryzen 3700x 8C/16T with this user.cfg

    Thread.ProcessorCount 8
    Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8
    Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
    Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
    GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16

  • Hello,

i had the same issue and i was wondering what is wrong with my setup.

    16GB RAM DDR4

    i7-9700K (8cores)

    RTX 2070 SUPER

Im currently running the game on an HDD.

The ISSUE was the power supply for me. I had so many devices includingmy PC pluged into one distributer...

    SOLUTION FOR ME:

Plug the PC in the wall, not to something that connects all your stuff...

    I hope I helped someone

    Edit: i changed  16B RAM DDR4

    to: 16GB RAM DDR4

  • My GPU is used at a somewhat reasonable percentage (above 60%) but ONLY IN THE MAIN MENU! When playing conquest (128 players) my CPU is used at around 100 percent most of the time. GPU? Not even 50%. Is this some kind of sick joke? It used to run [mostly] fine. But now it's unplayable, with the game sometimes dipping below 70 FPS. I'm extremely frustrated!

    Ryzen 5 5600x

    RX6800 XT

    16 Gigs of RAM

    Windows 11

I tried deleting the cache folder. Reinstalling the damn game. Different commands in the console, user.cfg. NOTHING WORKS!!! God damn it.

  • @LordAngelus yep same issue. I ran it fine on my old GTX960, but now that I have upgraded to a 3070ti and from 16 to 32gb of ram the game is unplayable. Season 4 update came out while I was rebuilding the computer so not sure if it is the update or some other issue. Running a i5 7600k
  • You are slightly wrong there.
It is not the game that is CPU heavy but the players are the problem.
128 players in total creates more weight for the cpu than what the game does.

Let me explain, READ CAREFULLY and you will understand what the problem is here.
I noticed this after my tests.

    11th gen i5 11600k so the following.
*128 players in a match on different maps = CPU usage goes to 90% - 100% (Players, are largely the problem with teams, the more players the more the cpu has to work simultaneously with the game and all details simultaneously with GPU and fps )
*64 players in a match on different maps = CPU goes to 80% - 95% (Almost the same but not good enough, same error there with players)'
*32 players in a match on different maps = 70% to 95%, not as heavy as the first two with 128 and 64 players. (not good enough)
*16 players in a match on different maps = 65% - 90% usage, better than the first 3 with 32/64/128)

If I go to Chivary 2 with 64 players in a match, cpu usage is around 40% 50%, that's good and that's how it should be.

Remember this, 128 players creates more cpu load than 16 players.
There you have the fault with the game.

that the cpu goes through the roof is because dice has really messed up this time.

100% usage is not the problem but the heat. if my cpu breaks, YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!

so STOP with that kind of *.
    Bf2042 has cpu problems.

Fix problems instead of gagagaga talk

Bf2042 is a very cpu intensive game !
If ya got a lot background apps anmd windows processes/services running, ya CPU need to do a lot of work!
This will bring CPU to 100% , check all cores for exact % at each core !

A cleanboot will kill most programs and processes so CPU will not need to work that "hard".

More CPU % in use , more heat is produced also and that could throttle down CPU Mhz  to lower HEAT !

A good airflow is a MUST , als good cool equipment , fan + block , and make sure fans and cool alu. blocks are clean , no dust !

Ya could strip down windows by disabling (permanent/temporarly)  windows processes/services  and hardware.

    Check this link https://www.thewindowsclub.com/which-windows-10-services-safe-to-disable
Google for services that are safe to disable, you will find about 25 a 30 ya could disable by youre self !

Also  https://atlasos.net/  could be used, it will strip down windows completely.
This will kill / disable most apss and services that comes with windows.
Be aware , windows update , paint and almost every app (and bloatware) cant be used anymore and is uninstalled/deleted.

But it will improve system performance, instead of +70 services/processes who normally run in the background, atlosos reduce it to about 36 services/processes in the background !

Read tha instruction first , if ya use atlosos , ya just need 2 files and bout 15 a 30 minutes time to get a very light windows !
Make sure all drivers in windows and hardware are all uptodate first !!!!!

    Cheers

  • 1 reason for high cpu usage is bad optimization and the solution is the user.cfg file where you can edit number of threads. Second reason is that you can't play at max fps your cpu can handle with an i5 for example, a more powerfull cpu is needed. It wil be used 100% and a bottleneck will occur. Limiting fps at 60-70 in nvidia control pannel is the solution.

The second solution is for stutterings. I have an i5 9400f. I can play at 90 fps, but i have a lot of stutterings and the cpu is used 100% and the GPU 1%. Limitting the fps cap will do the job.

  • Bro you have a terrible cpu with a near top end gpu. Your gpu is easily running the frames that your cpu can barely handle. And no its not a small bottleneck like you said even my i5-12600k runs near 90% on 2042 with my 3080 but im getting high frames with that the game is cpu intensive
