CFT and TN spikes

Hey all,

Firstly, I've had this issue for years and I cannot seem to resolve it.

Every couple minutes during gameplay I get random CFT and TN spikes (see attached pics) which always screw me up. A second later, gameplay goes back to normal. During the spike, I see CPU and GPU utilisation dip in MSI Afterburner.

My specs are:

  • 14700k
  • 64gb DDR5
  • RTX5080 (originally 3080ti)
  • NVME SSD
  • 750mb/s internet connection on ethernet
  • ... Resource constraints aren't the issue.

I don't have this issue in any other game.  I never had issues when I first started playing the game on release. It maybe popped up a year later.

What I've tried:

  • Disabling C-states
  • Disabling one drive sync
  • Different USB ports for K&M
  • Different K&M
  • Mouse raw input vs not
  • Closing all non-essential applications/services
  • Reinstalling and repairing easy anti cheat
  • Reinstalling BF2042
  • Cleared cache
  • Reformatting computer - clean install everything
  • Upgrading bios
  • Clean boot with most windows apps disabled
  • Disabling all overlays
  • Deleting IGO32.dll & IGO64.dll
  • Running as administrator
  • Lowered graphics settings/lighting/reflex/frame rate cap/

There doesn't seem to be a way to contact EA support. I've tried asking Reddit and got no help there. Maybe someone can help me here?

  • Do a google search of "msi afterburner problems" or similar, and you will see many people have problems with this program.

Also, Windows update can have the same effect. Or perhaps another program updating or running in the back ground. I know you said that you shut them all off, but did you ? .

Your pc specs say you should have no problem playing this game, so something running momentarily from it or too it would evidently be the problem.

Posting a screenshot of PerfOverlay.DrawGraph right after the stutter occurs will help us with troubleshooting. Even better would be posting a video of the stutter with all the graphs onscreen.

Enabling the graphs and fps doesn't show anything new.

I tracked all cores in MSI Afterburner and it shows a dip when I get the stutter.

I looked up what the blue line is on the LAT/ALAT graph and it's TN - Time nudge. I changed DNS and tried on WIFI over ethernet, still have the same issue.

Unlikely that it's a network issue given I don't have this issue on any other game.

  • The red circle on the right in your screenshot shows the client frametime (CFT) spiking up to 16ms. This means your PC's framerate is spiking up to 62fps during the spike. (1,000ms ÷ 16ms = 62fps)

I'm not sure what the blue line is for in the red circle on the left. The blue line appears to be for packet loss out. If that's the case then your PC also stops sending network packets to the server at the same time the 62fps CFT spike is occuring. Your PC appears to be momentarily freezing/stuttering during the spike.

Here's a post where I helped a forum member troubleshoot PC stutter. These console commands will help with further troubleshooting.

    PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1

Note the posts about monitoring individual CPU core usage with Windows Task Manager. It only takes a single CPU core reaching 100% usage to freeze/stutter the game. Windows Task Manager must be configured to show individual CPU core usage. Instructions on how to do all this are in the link below.
