Connection issues [PC]

I'm on PC.  When I start up Battlefield 2042 - all I get is the opening loop that it's connecting to services .. and then either it goes on forever, or rarely, I'll get an error saying it cannot retrieve persistence data, and that it would go to the main menu ... but it never goes to the main menu.

I've tried:

1. Rebooting
2. Knocking a hole in my firewall for Battlefield.
3. Rebooting again
4. Set up alternate DNS
5. Rebooted / cleared DNS Cache, etc.
6. Repaired the install
7. Rebooted
8. Uninstalled / deleted directory .. excuse me - folder
9. Rebooted
10. Reinstalled to a new di... folder
11. Cussed a lot.
12. Performed ritual magics that included blood sacrifices
13. Unplugged Ethernet and connected via wi-fi.
14. Rebooted.
15.  Yelled at God to get off my lawn, turned of Wi-fi and plugged ethernet back in.
16. Rebooted.
17. Before any of this - checked downdetector and EA's server status tool.
18. Rebooted.
19.  Forgot to say - up around #2 or #3 - I rebooted the router.

I think it's safe to say at this point, the issue is not on my end.

So - is it rediculous to list my steps out like that?  Yes.
Is it rediculous to have to do this for a triple-A Title?  Also yes.

But - sadly, this is the norm with EA.  Please help.  I've been a loyal Battlefield fan since the 1942 dropped.  Even competed until you took the ability to rent servers away.

Please help.

  • The only thing that has worked for me is using a VPN. I could not explain how or why, it just does

  • I always wonder if these connections issues are caused by IPv6. Maybe EA doesn't setup their IPv6 network correctly. Or perhaps it's just an outage effecting everyone in certain regions.

  • IDK what is this? Is this an AT&T error or something because I have their fiber. I played just fine last night and got the opportunity to hop on early today and nothing, man. Can't even get to menu. I've tried every troubleshooting step but only 2042 doesn't work. This needs to be fixed I literally have EA Play Pro for Battlefield and I can't even get to the menu? Lame.

  • I guess its worth mentioning that i too am on PC, but I did manage to get online to play. There are indeed alot of people still playing. I gave up trying to launch the game via steam on my PC but instead launched the game via Geforce NOW. I didnt think it was going to work until it did! The connection was horrible and I was only able to play for the 1 hour they provide for free until you get kicked. Logged into my steam account and sure enough i got in. Try this method although not an exact fix it is a work around. Something tells me that there is some nefarious work at hand, I too am on AT&T Fiber and was able to play this morning. but on Geforce NOW you'd be playing remotely from a Nvidia server somewhere. Just look up geforce now and signin to your account. please do let me know if this works for you as well in the meantime.

Thanks for responding! That’s interesting to hear that GeForce Now provided a workaround for the login issues. I’ll have to try that next time. I got tired of 2042 not working so ai jumped on BFV just to run a few rounds since it was around 11 PM anyway. I played for like an hour, and around midnight I wanted to try to login 2042 once more, and it finally let me login in! Zero problems, <9 ping, no issues. Played a quick round and had to head to bed. But it seems like it was an EA server issue, some incompatibility or temporary server issues with AT&T customers. Maybe someone forgot to pay a subscription or something. All I know is that for the entirety of April 2nd, I was unable to login to BF2042, which is really strange and weird. So, I guess the problem solved itself? Have you been able to login yet?
