Dear Dice - Please move the "Cache" folder to the hidden %appdata% folder, as it

I post it here because for some people it can also be a technical problem (e.g. cause lag and stuttering)

Two of my friends use OneDrive with the default settings, which means that the entire documents folder is synchronized to the OneDrive cloud by default. Every time they play BF, and the shader cache changes, those files are uploaded repeatedly to Onedrive, blocking upload traffic. I am pretty sure, they are not the only one with the problem.

Simple fix: move the folder. Battlefield V also had a hidden folder in the Appdata folder.

C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\Battlefield 2042\cache

to

C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Battlefield 2042\cache

ty 🙂

  • @0lsn just have them exclude the folder from syncing with OneDrive or turn off OneDrive if they aren't using it at all.

I told them that as the very first step, because it is the only viable temporary solution. But it still doesn't solve the problem.

    • Cache data should never be stored in the Documents folder, as the Appdata folder exists for that very purpose - to store "semi"-temporary files that the end user should not interact with directly.
    • Also, Onedrive is a default app on most Windows devices, and most people just take the default settings (especially if they have an O365 subscription). With the current implementation, you're forcing people into an unnecessary hassle.

Anyway, thanks for the nice feedback 😉

@0lsn I know they have always used the Documents folder for their games going all the way back to BF3 well before One Drive arrived on the scene. Anyways, I'll get this passed on to the CM's for you.
