DirectX Error when launching game

Hi all,

When I try to launch Battlefield 2042 I am met with the attached image of my DirectX error message.

The game worked for me the week before launch, day of launch and day after launch but suddenly stopped working after that - nothing was changed (as in no windows update, graphics driver update or game update between me last playing and this error appearing).

Fixes I have attempted since this

-Repairing file through steam AND origin

-Reinstalling the game

-Updating graphics driver

-Reverting graphics driver back an update

-Clean install of graphics driver

-DirectX update

-Fresh install of DirectX

-Making a new windows user

-Used windows file checker

-Performed a clean boot of my pc

This was all as per the advice of a very helpful member of staff on EAHelp's Twitter but sadly nothing has worked.

He confirmed my pc meets all spec requirements and I have attached a DxDiag file - he advised me to make a post here hoping somebody else has some suggestions

Any help would be much appreciated as I am past the amount of hours for a steam refund (due to it working fine pre-launch) but can't justify spending £80 on the gold edition of a game that only worked for around a week ☹️

That is a less common DirctX error, check if starting your launcher (Origin, Steam etc) by right clicking it and then choosing Run as an Administrator has an effect here.

    Thanks.

  • This actually worked!
I tried it again as not admin and it won't run but if I start as admin I can run Battlefield...

However anytime I want to play a different game I have to reboot my PC and start steam as non-admin because no other game seems to like that lmao

  • I saw a solution online that worked for me.  It said to find the location of the installed EA games folder  - in my case it was C:\program files\EA Games\[Game name]\

Search under that folder for dbghelp.dll.    I found two instances.  The directions said to delete the file.   I decided to create a backup folder, and moved the file to there.

Then launch EA games .. and it worked fine.  Once.  Then for some reason it had created the same file.  I deleted it again, and it worked fine again.
