DXGI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED MESSAGE

DirectX function "D3D12CreateDevice" failed with

DXGI ERROR_UNSUPPORTED (The requested functionality is not supported by the device or the driver."). GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090*, Driver: 58088

this is the message I get every time I try to launch Battlefield 2042 (EA App). I can launch and play other games no problem. The only ones I cannot launch are 2042, BF1 and BFV. I can launch skate, Star Wars battlefront and BF4 just fine without any issue.

I have tried the laundry list of clean install and rolling back gpu drivers, fresh direxcX reinstall, EAAnticheat reinstall, repairing 2042, uninstalling 2042 and the EA app, disabling overlays, and system file corruption (DISM & SFC Clean). All of which did not work and I still can’t play the game. The game ran just fine last week with no issues, also did not have any issues playing the BF6 Beta.

  • After a few minutes of analysis, the problem was solved. Here are the steps I followed:

    --Complete restoration of EA Anticheat--
    - Delete all inside -> C:\Program Files\EA\AC
    And reinstall with clean files from the clean game "my own"  (this does not change anything because these files are generalized and not assigned).

    --Grant full permissions to all users for the files--
    -> C:\Program Files\EA
    -> And the folder where the game “Battlefield 2042” is located (may vary)
    - Restart your computer.
    - Run EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe, click “Repair” for Battlefield 2042
    - Close all app in background (*MSI afterburner,Discord overlay...)
    MSI Afterburner is currently not compatible with BF2042 for some users

    - Then run EA app
    - And launch the game

    Have great game ! 😊

  • Hi toskitis
    Could you send me a DxDiag so I can find some clues based on the errors it shows?

    Press the Windows and R keys at the same time.
    Type DxDiag in the window that appears, then click Save all information and save the file wherever you want.
    Then drag and drop the file here, click Share - add the .txt file as an attachment.

    Thank you 😄

    Thank you for your DxDiag.
    After analyzing it, I couldn't find anything that could be causing problems with launching Battlefield.

    Here are some solutions that might help :
    - Reinstall DirectX 12 here > https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35&utm_source
     This basically restores corrupted DLLs

    Next, I recommend installing driver 577.0, available here : https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/
     This is currently the most stable driver for BF2042

    Let me know 😄

  • I did restart my pc before trying to launch 2042, also tried launching as admin. I already tried these steps yesterday and had the same result as i did just now. For reference any other game works from the EA app and also Steam. Not sure whats messed up with 2042.

    Okay,
    I think it would be best if we looked into this together on Discord, it will be easier, and if we find the problem, a message will then be posted here to help other players who are experiencing the same issue.
