Gpu+Cpu load and power draw in menu is to high

Product: Battlefield 2042
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
AMD or Nvidia Model Number RTX 2080 ti
Enter RAM memory size in GB 32 GB
Are you using any software with an overlay? No
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? Game Menu
In which game menu were you when the bug occurred? All
Please select your region Europe
On which server did this happen?
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm)
Summarize your bug Whenever I'm idle in the menu GPU usage and CPU usage is 100% this is not a report about performance problems but about wasted energy. I feel that it is very weird that in the menu my GPU draws more power then in game In the menu my TDP is maxed at 128% (340 watts for my specific gpu) In game I hit 80% TDP average. This means I draw around 100 watts more power sitting in the menu compared to when playing. I did limit my FPS to 144. (Can't get more with the current performance state). Limiting the menu to a max of 60 FPS could help, but this might be something for the devs to implement, rather than me working around it. Also, even when minimized, power draw keeps peaking. With millions of players, this could even help save some power globally 😉
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Yes. If on 60Hz display it can be reproduced by unlimiting fps, thus not capping fps at monitor refresh rate If you try to reproduce it on a high refresh rate monitor, the problem should automatically raise.
What happens when the bug occurs? Cpu and gpu usage max out, drawing unneeded power
What should be happening instead? Limit fps in menu's to 60 fps (or give players the option). Limiting power draw. Also pause rendering of menu when the game in minimized, or limit fps more if impossible. Further optimize cpu and gpu usage

Thanks!

  • I noticed that BF2042 is not optimized for high fps , and consumes the same amount of resources as if In-game while being on the menu. also if you don't lock the fps it doesn't get limited at your screen max fps , instead it runs ur hardware at max and delivers whatever it can.
also the FPS canno't be locked in borderless mode and you have to be using fullscreen mode.
so you need (full screen + turn on dynamic resolution + turn on V-sync or G-sync and lower the fps everytime u get off a game until u start again) otherwise the gpu is gonna be constantly overloaded even in menu which will make it overheat as you play
Of course the other solution is to lower the fps and pretend that you're playing on a playstation 3.

@Zyolo420 if ya are gaiming at a pc, and you cpu/gpu get overheated, then you need to check your cooling and airflow !
If stuff gets overheated at your pc , then there is something very wrong !
  • Ohh no it's not related to cooling I'm just gaming at 120FPS and when you are in the main menu the game will consume the max amount of resources from GPU and CPU , then as soon as the game actually starts then the gpu consumption goes down from being constantly at 100% to about 70% when gaming
(100% Usage In menu) / (50-70% Usage In game and no heating )

some people got issues with cpu usage !

    a howto movie about user.cfg

do not use the max cores you got, if ya got an 8 core cpu then use about 5 a 6 cores for game , others are for system !

    Any questions? ask them !

test it with the ammount of cores, depends on cpu, some could use a higher number others need to lower that number !!!
