Portal or Servers Broken and Chat is Broken, Wi-Fi Driver Issue

I’m experiencing several issues with Battlefield 2042 on Steam that appear to match what other players have previously reported in the EA forums:

1. Player count not updating on portal

  • The player count appears to be stuck and does not change
  • I first noticed this yesterday and again today; the numbers have remained exactly the same on both days

2. Can't Choose Maps?

  • On the official matchmaking options, there is no way to choose specific maps

  • Please add a map selection option, and provide better visibility of available servers so players can choose where to play, including for Quick Play

  • Additionally, the matchmaking queue often takes a very long time while waiting for a game to start on this only 1 option, so the alternative solution is to look on portal servers

3. In‑game chat not working or broken

  • The in‑game chat is not appearing, I cannot see other players’ messages?
  • I initially thought this was a settings issue on my side, but after checking my settings and testing, the problem persists, last 2025 mid - year -> I have no issues on this, so I was wondering why it is not showing and I thought it was a new feature or something, but it seems to be broken
  • I tested Battlefield 6 on the same system, and chat works there normally. This issue seems specific to Battlefield 2042 on Steam

4. "Game session not available" error & Wi‑Fi driver issue

My Wi-Fi Driver is on the latest and the Ethernet/LAN Driver, but we are focusing on the Wi-Fi Driver at the moment:

MediaTek MT7925/7927 WiFi Driver v5.7.0.4669 for Windows 11 64-bit

Version 5.7.0.4669

2026/01/02

SHA-256 :8A41FA06CDF14033E4D88D5A87AB3B64F20DD97019223FD1BD41A7E3FD4AEE35

  • I can't join servers nor play on the official servers? also, when the "Game session not available" error occurs on PCs that are using Wi‑Fi (or have Wi‑Fi enabled), it appears to cause the Wi‑Fi driver to become unavailable
  • After this happens, the only way to restore the Wi‑Fi functionality is to restart the computer
  • It renders, cannot play BF2042 because of this problem
  • Also, it seems there are cheaters and bots on the servers as usual? when will it be fixed and auto-detection for these accounts to be banned or hardware banned

I tried "Verify Integrity of game files", Re-download the game -> no fix on it, so I think this is on the game problem

System Specifications:

  • CPU: Intel® Core™ i9‑14900KF (Not overclocked and optimized)
  • GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4080 SUPER
  • GPU Driver Version (Latest at the moment)
  • NVIDIA App: 11.0.6.383
  • Game Ready Driver: 591.86
  • RAM: GeIL ORION V 32GB 5200MT/s
  • Storage: WD Blue™ SN580 NVMe™ SSD 2TB (Latest Firmware Version: 281050WD)
  • Motherboard: ASUS Z790 GAMING WIFI7 (BIOS Latest: Version 1825)
  • Intel ME Version (Latest)
  • Intel Serial IO Software (Latest)
  • Intel Management Engine Interface (Latest)
  • Intel Chipset Driver (Latest)
  • Microcode (Latest)
  • Windows Version (Latest at the moment): 25H2 (OS Build 26200.7840)

Lastly, this only happens on this game, I have no issues on other games or PC general usage, so I am reporting this problem here for it to be fixed hopefully

I really thought the in-game chat is just like that on 2026 but it seems not as there is no chats from players be it squad, team or all (both sides) so this is a problem too, last year it did not have an in-game chat issue, i don't know why it has this and if this has been going for a bit long time now

I was out of the game for a while and yesterday i tried to lunch it and then got disconnected, saw that wifi was missing. Rebooting revert everything to normal.

I tried to investigate a little bit: is not power consumption related (tried with capping frames, lowering GFX settings), is only releated to Battlefield 2042 (the other game i had is EA WRC and it not happen) and stress testing the GPU with Furmark DO NOT kill wifi.

Reverted back Windows Update to late february and did not helped

Everythings point in a strange issue with BF2042 and WiFi driver.

I just bought the game and cannot even play it! It just turns off my Wi-Fi after 1 to 2 minutes of playing and I would have to toggle on and off my Wi-Fi.

    Things I have tried:
Reinstalling drivers, BF 2042, Anti-cheat, EA Launcher

Repairing BF 2042, Anti-cheat, EA Launcher
Allowing BF 2042, Anti-cheat, EA Launcher through firewall
    Updated all drivers

    Set DNS to IPv4/IPv6

    Hardware:

    • Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7
    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
    • GPU: Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 9070 XT
    • RAM: Kingston FURY Beast 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL30
