Re: DirextX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" in the game menu, cant even load maps

Thanks for the details @Piksved

Need some more info from you can you add a Dxdiag so we can see what hardware and drivers you have?

@Piksved Hey man, crashes since day one you got BF20452 ?
I do see some outdated drivers from 2019 and even 2017 !!!
I also see problems with youre Synapse services !

First update youre system drivers (chipset driver you use is from 2019 <-- way to old!).
    Try this:
    SYSTEM DRIVERS AND CHIPSET UPDATE

Check the Youtube movie how to install , download and update ALL drivers.
    https://youtu.be/6UpzenfVOAA
Open the web browser and enter url: https:\\www.drivereasy.com
Click at Driver Update Tool in the upper bar and select Download Free Version.
Click at the green button with the text DOWNLOAD DRIVER EASY NOW.
When tool is downloaded select the file and run.
    Install Driver Easy Tool.

Some drivers updates need to reboot your system, reboot system when needed,
continue using Driver Easy untill 'ALL' drivers are updated.
This free version allows only 1 download and 1 update at once.
    Reboot your system

Now lets do a windows healty check also:
    SFC - Windows Health Check

Press Windows key + 'R' ,typ CMD
Press and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and press ENTER.
When User Account Control shows up, click Yes.
Use the following command lines, pressing Enter after each
(make sure you wait till each of the commands is executed properly):

    sfc /scannow
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    Reboot your system

Now to make sure any other software/program is causing any issues with bf2042,
you need to do a real cleanboot:
    Cleanboot / Msconfig

reboot pc by a clean boot:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd
Hide all Microsoft services, DISABLE (uncheck) ALL other processes, apps and services !

Cleanboot is just a one time clean boot ! Next reboot all will be reset and a normal boot will be occure.
Use msconfig to disable apps permanent each for new reboot.
DISABLE ALL other processes, apps and services from booting with windows, check instructions below:
Use the keyboard shortcut “Windows Key + R” and the “Run” window will open.
In the text box, typ MSCONFIG and press Enter or OK and the MsConfig window will open".
Select the tab STARTUP (select OPEN TASK MANAGER), and disable apps/programs by right click at them!
Those disabled apps will no longer boot with Windows , till ya set them enabled again !

Now test game and update us please !
    Cheers

@EA_Atic Hi, so I have indeed tried older GPU drivers, no luck. I have not tried making a new windows account with admin rights, i will try that soon.

@Rokebo73 I have tried all of that. I did install some more drivers with driver easy, that didn't help unfortunately. Done clean reboot and the windows repair commands. None of it worked. ☹️

  • @EA_Atic I found out the windows account I use now already has full admin rights. Would you still want me to try with a new account with admin rights?

  • Also, new information about this problem.

Yesterday, I re-installed the game, ran DDU and re-installed GPU driver, i deleted documents folder, all after installing a few new drivers with driver-easy. That made a small improvement, the game no longer crashes in the menu after 5 seconds. Yesterday I even got to play 2 games before it crashes, and then I could play another 2 games, then only 1 game, and now no games. The game is back to crashing after about 1-5 minutes. So whatever the problem is, it rapidly gets worse over time. Today, a day later, the problem has not gotten better. Anyone know what that means?

Do you get any crash logs in the document fodler for 2042? @Piksved

In microsoft event viewer Does battlefield 2042 show up?

Can you upload a new Dxdiag.

    /Atic
  • @Piksvedits almost as if the more you play the faster you crash, that's what I noticed. Haven't played for 1 week and I could finish 4-5 games before crashing again xD

  • @EA_Atic Hey, It has been a while since I checked the event viewer after a crash, I will try to do so soon. There are some files in the "CrashDumps" folder of bf2042, but they are in a format (.mdmp files) that this forum won't allow me to upload. Can I upload them elsewhere for you?

Also, as @vydenis is saying, the game seems to crash more often over time. I said in a previous post I could play about 2-3 games before crashing, but as time goes, it crashes more and more frequently, now I can only get 1-5 minutes again. Oddly, this deterioration of performance is seemingly contingent on the graphics settings. What is mean is, I seem to get 2-3 games on low, then on medium, then on high, then on ultra, and once I have gone through all presets, I need to do a full reset of everything again, like DDU, re-installing the game, deleting cache, and so on.

Does this clue someone in on the nature of this issue? Like there is a memory leak or something. What ever the problem is, it accumulates over time, and can be reset. Surely this limits the scope of what it can be? I just don't know enough to say.

I have attached a fresh Dxdiag. Thank you for your continued interest, this is greatly appreciated. Should anyone manage to help find the critical problem causing all this, I will buy you a whole case of beer. Not kidding.

    @Piksved Hey man.

Did ya use DDU in windows safe mode ?
    Do this please:
Pre download to correct driver for youre GPU at nvidia.com/
    Pre download DDU.
Now disconnect the computer from the internet/network ! (unplug network cable / wifi dongle)
Go to Settings / APPS and uninstall all nvidia software.

Boot now youre windows into SAFE MODE
Use DDU to delete NVIDIA and AMD left overs from youre system
Reboot youre computer (DO NOT CONNECT WITH NETWORK CABLE/WIFI DOnGLE).
Install now the Nvidia driver ya did pre download.
    Reboot computer

    Now connect network cable/wifi dongle.
Move / Delete the BF2042 folder in DOCUMENTS.
Startup game as ADMIN and test game !

    Cheers

@Rokebo73 Pretty certain I have done all this before, but I went ahead and did it again, precicely as you describe. It made no difference. First launch after doing all that, I crash in the menu. Tried again because I forgot to delete documents folder, but it crashed again within 1-2 mins in the game.

    @Piksved  Question
Is game crashing since day one you did buy it ?
    Memory+Motherboard+bios check part specs

Press Windows key + 'R' ,typ CMD
Press and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and press ENTER.
When User Account Control shows up, click Yes.
    Now enter this command:

wmic /output:C:\mb_mem_bios_info.txt memorychip list full&wmic /append:C:\mb_mem_bios_info.txt baseboard get product, Manufacturer&wmic /append:C:\mb_mem_bios_info.txt bios get smbiosbiosversion

At youre C: drive there is now a file called mb_mem_bios_info.txt post this file please !!!
    Thanks.

ps the bolded line is just 1 long command, copy and paste all !

@Rokebo73 Hey, yeah they game has been crashing since day 1. Never had a stable game. Was not allowed a refund, but I don't have a functioning game.

I tried putting your command in the CMD prompt, but I think it failed, because all it says is "Invalid file name". I don't see the file in the C drive either.

@Piksved  Hey man , sorry for the very late reply !!!

I see you could update youre bios version , current is:
    SMBIOSBIOSVersion
    1002

at webiste there is already an :
    PRIME B365M-K BIOS 2208
    Versie 2208
    9.57 MB
    2021/07/24
Support Windows 11 by default, no settings changes required in the UEFI BIOS.

Update to the latest version of bios, it could solve this issue !
    https://www.asus.com/nl/motherboards-components/motherboards/prime/prime-b365m-k/helpdesk_bios/?model2Name=PRIME-B365M-K
Page is in dutch , change language first !
If ya still got issues after flashing all the available bios versions , then its possible youre memory isnt compatible with youre cpu.
    I did check https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/PRIME_B365M-K/memory_QVL.pdf?model=PRIME%20B365M-K
and could not find youre current memory in this list CMK8GX4M1A2666C16

To make sure memory isnt faulty , you could test each memory module seperate from each other.
But this could cause some performance issues cause you got 2x 8GB corsair modules !

PS its possible youre memory got some comptability issues with youre cpu ,
maybe update memory to a faster and some more ram modules who

are mention in the QVL list !!!

keep us up to date please !

@Rokebo73 Hey thanks for your continued help, I really appreciate it.

I went and updated the BIOS to newest version from the link you provided. Put the file on a correctly formatted USB drive, and it went fine. The same actually does run better now, I can sometimes finish a map, most of the time I get about half of a round before it crashes.

Regarding the RAM, I have been suspicious of my RAM for a little while. Others have reported that replacing the RAM fixed it. Considering buying these ones here just to see if it works: https://www.amazon.com/G-SKILL-Ripjaws-PC4-25600-Platform-F4-3200C16D-32GVK/dp/B0171GQR0C

Do you think they could be compatible? I looked them up on a compatibility checker, and they should be ok I think.

@PiksvedHey, i do not see the partnumber from the memory F4-3200C16D-32GVK

    in the QVL list !
I see you want to buy 2x 16GB 3200mhz from Gskill.

In the list for 3200Mhz memory i see only those partnumbers:
    PANRAM PUD43200C164G4NJW - 4* 4GB SS N/A 16-18-18-39 1.35 DDR4-2666 ● ●

Better choose one from those memory modules !
The compatibility checker is not a fav. tool for me, ya never know if its up to date and if ya get the correct mem, that compatbile with youre cpu at youre current motherboard !

Check list , scroll down to page 6
    https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/PRIME_B365M-K/memory_QVL.pdf?model=PRIME%20B365M-K

    Cheers

Ps its possible memory from compatibility checker is ok , but no guarantee till ya test it !!
I did BOLD 2 lines for 32GB 3200,hz memory , team and gskill (only 2 modules for dual channel mode)
    Team CMK32GX4M2B3200C16(Ver5.39)

    G.SKILL CMD32GX4M2C3200C16(Ver5.39)

32gb memory is not realy needed unless ya do some stuff with photo;s / music ect.
32gb memory makes it possible to run more programs, but ya need also a decent cpu if ya use a lot of memory !

EDIT: Check this link at page 15 please !!

You're right, it's not there. What a mine field, but I am learning a lot from all this, so thank you for that as well.

Right now I am looking at that long list and trying to find what is best, it's a real long list lol. Do you think I should stick to 2666mhz ram because it can't go higher anyway?

Also about the 32 gb, I do a fair amount of stuff in photoshop and similar software regularly, so I do like having a good bit of RAM. But obviously if my CPU can't keep up anyway, then its pointless.

Right now I would either get

    Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-2666 C16 BK DC - 32GB

    or

    Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz 32GB

Both are on the list, price is similar, but their MHz varies. Is there one you think is better?

    Thank you so much.

  • So, I bought new ram, installed it, and the game crashes after 10 mins. Didn't matter.

  • Alright so I found something that stabilizes the game enough for it to be playable, reliably so it seems. Been playing the game for a week now (almost), and I get 1-2 crashes a day, meaning in a gaming session of anything from 2-6 hours, depending on my free time. I can't say for sure whether the RAM really did anything, but I think probably not.

After I installed the ram, I continued to google options for fixing it. Led me to the suggestion that I should set an FPS limit on the game though the nvidia control panel. I don't remember if I have tried this before, because I've tried so many things over the many months. Regardless, limiting the game to 40 fps has a dramatic effect. Like mentioned before, the game now crashes after hours, not minutes. Before, I was lucky if I made it into a round and got to shoot a bullet or two. Now, it might crash after 3-4 games, and then not again that day.

tldr: set frame rate limit to the game at 40-50, doesnt fix it, but stabilizes the game.

  • @vydenis Yeah, I am almost ready to conclude that too. The only things I have left to try, that I can think of, is replacing the GPU or re-installing windows. Not gonna bother with either, because the game is playable. It was not a very fulfilling solution, considering the problem is only lessened, not fixed. I still do not know the exact problem. I might still try to find out.
