Windows 11 September update 22H2 -substantial FPS drop

The 09/20/2022 update for Windows 11 was just pushed out and I just installed it. This has caused substantial FPS drop and GPU voltage is also substantially less.

I have reverted back to the last build and voila, everything is smooth as butter again.

Troubleshooting steps to identify root cause as Windows 11 September update:

1) Removed BF2042 entirely and reinstalled. Issue remained

2) Updated RTX 3090 drivers to latest, issue remained.

3) Reverted to last version of RTX 3090 drivers, issue remained.

4) This issue is NOT present in other games (Hitman + BF4, etc).

Conclusion: This must be a Windows 11 09/2022 update + BF 2042 problem. Please investigate.

Here it is. However, I'm not sure how much good it will be to you, as:

    a) I'm on the Insider Program and have a Win11 version that has not been released to general public

    b) I have BIOS and in-game settings that will impact performance

    Hey @DarthFDG,

If and when the Battlefield 2042 system requirements will be updated to include Windows 11, it will be included in the system requirements of the game. 🙂 Sadly we don't have info available if and or when this will happen. However, feedback re. making Battlefield 2042 fully compatible with Windows 11 is always welcome of course, this will be passed on to the teams.

So I rejoined the Windows 11 insider Program.  Currently it is on 22H2 Build 22623.891.  But no amount of Windows 11 updates fixed the issue.

However, Nvidia released Driver Version 526.86.  That driver update did fix the issue for me.  I am back up to my former FPS numbers.  From 20fps back up to 80fps (w/RTX), and without the stuttering and massive lag.  Still not the best performance overall, but that's another issue.

So the issue for the time being is solved for me.  Just update your drivers to 526.86 if you are on an Nvidia GFX card.

@CDNAngryPenguin Are you still having this issue? Do new video drivers help?

  • The fix is to clean install Windows 11 version 22H2, and use the current Nvidia driver. If you simply upgrade Windows 11 21H2 to 22H2 you may run into problems. A clean install is the only way to fix. This is the official fix posted by Microsoft and Nvidia. And yes, BF2042 does work really well on Windows 11 despite not officially being supported.

    Hey everyone,

Microsoft has updated their Windows 11 22H2 Known Issues doc where they highlight a known issue stating the following: Lower than expected performance in some games.

So it seems that they're aware of the issues with this Windows 11 build and are actively investigating the issue.
