Windows Defender Threat Detection

Started getting Windows Defender Threat Detected today when launching BF2042.

Launched the game three times to check it was only happening with 2042. Which is is. Any other game does not trigger the threat detection (was thinking it might have been Nvidia Overlay or something) IOt also triggers without Nvidia Overlay Active.

Launching through Steam with the "EA Lite" app.

  • Morning,
The problem has been resolved :

    ·  An anti-cheat update via the installer "EAAntiCheat.Installer.exe" has resolved the detection of this problem.

    Enjoy the game 😄

  • If only I could use Process Monitor to try and find out what's creating the files, but I guess there's no way to run it with 2042.

  • Ok, it isn't OpenRGB causing it. A few temp files get created when opening 2042, just one of them gets detected as malicious though.

  • I'm pretty sure it's a false positive but yeah, just annoying more than anything. Interesting thread, I hadn't come across that one.

I do also have OpenRGB installed, will update that and report back. I remember the whole WinRing0 debacle too. Weird that it's only triggered with Battlefield though.

  • Also worth mentioning, as you suggested Steeve_BF both ESET and Bitdefender don't find anything with full system scans. The only time anything gets detected is when EAAntiCheat, Battlefield or whatever creates the temp file for a fraction of a second.

  • Should also say, the tmp file is created for a split second when battlefield black small window pops up in the top left of the screen before launching the game.

I've also tried killing all background processes and launching the game, still happens. So it something to do with the EA App or EAAnticheat.

  • This is now happening with another Battlefield title.

Going to uninstall and reinstall the EA App to see if it's that, but it only happens when launching 2042 and BFL so far.

  • Yeah, the tmp file only gets created when launching 2042. idk what could be causing it as nothing has changed with my 2042 install since it was installed and this wasnt happening previously. The tmp causing the issue gets removed instantly when launching 2042 but still. Only happens when launching 2042, no other game.

  • Hi h3x1e
The file detected TmpCD20.tmp has nothing to do with Battlefield 2042. It is a temporary file created by another program on your PC.

To resolve this issue, simply empty your temporary folder as follows:

    1- Open Windows Explorer
    2- Go to  C:\WINDOWS\Temp or C:\WINDOWS\SystemTemp
3- In the Temp folder, Select All with CTRL+A
4- With all files highlighted, press the Delete key or click the Delete button
5- Once deleted, restart your computer

After that, I recommend running a virus scan with ESET: https://www.eset.com/online-scanner/
You can then safely launch your game.😄
