Actually I have done both and my experience is that noone uses the stinger, its a waste of space cause its easier to have a recon class lock on with SOL (pilot prematurely use their flares most times) and they get shot down by and RPG. No other unit can cross the battle field as easily and also has the ability to hover and shoot ( it takes skill to kill and fly but you also are less likely to be killed unless you stay still) and you can stay off the map with no danger to your life unlike everyother unit
Most pilots usually fly off the field to recover their flares or fly around tall buildings to break lockon ( save their flares). I my self have done it but I won't deny its difficulty in BF6 and by myself I'll spend more time trying not to get shot down then killing which makes sense. It shouldn't be easy to dominate enemy air space without any hindrance, not to mention you can deploy allies at the enemies back to take care of those pesky stingers or a good sniper. Those who use stingers are easy to pick off when they are locking on ( free kills)
as mention before, the biggest problem is the map size. In 2042 you have a nice spread of units on the map so the chance of encountering AA is not very high. You are more likely to have someone like me who bluffs with SOL to keep air units running or wasting their flares until the real heroe gets there.
Don't know the range of stingers on previous games (Noone uses them) but I think that the range lock is about 400 to 500 meters on 2042, most maps you'll have to be dead center to have a chance at covering most of the map or have 3 engineer across your side to create an AA barrier (800 to 1000 meters space between them) on the largest maps, not acounting flying of the map ( stimate, can'trememberthe actual number at the top of my head) . BF6 on the othe hand, its biggest map seems to be about 200 to 300 meter wide by 400 to 500 meter long. So they need to fix that ( estimate)
If someone remembers or knows the actual numbers please, feel free to add them
Everyone and his mom has a stinger and is using it. So that noone uses the stinger is a very strange thing to say in this game.
Not sure you are even playing the same game then. And pretty sure you are not flying the chopper yourself if this is your view of things.
Also back in BF4, stingers and the AA were used often. As a pilot, you had to be sure you stayed over your half of the playing field (especially if cover was an issue) Otherwise it was hiding once the flares have been used.
And I can guarantee that I got locked on the very moment I got a bit too far out. So that noone used the stinger is not true at all.
Big difference is that back then, you had to choose to run with RPG or stinger, now, that is not even needed.
You could not get locked on when flying low between buildings and manoeuvrability was a lot better. There was a much more leveled playing field in BF4.
The fact that as a foot soldier I do not even need to worry about the chopper at all during the beta (I played all 4 days) says it all. It is just too weak to be a threat on the battlefield as it is.
Besides testing it out, I never played 2042 as I hated it. So I do not think that is the reference to go with...
Played Battlefield since 1942 however and every one following that one.
