Six; A Long Time Player's Review
I've been playing the series since I was a freshman in high school when BF1942 came out. Through this I helped grow and become part of a community, a friend group that is still strong today. Many communities formed. I contend that the BF communities are the fuel for the BF engine.
Six must be a game that comes back to the loving embrace of the community. Servers. Not just portal. SERVERS! Platoons/Clans. Ladders and leaderboards. Match making is for the user who just wants to jump into a game for a bit, then jump off. There's nothing wrong with that, but servers build brand loyalty, they build more communities. More players playing longer, more social media exposure, more YouTube videos. Servers allow for persistent games and create more epic BF moments. Clans and tags help build up infamy and those notorious players who people fear and love. I remember a time when people would enter servers just to get glimpses of high caliber players, and then get melted.
BF6 Beta showcased impressive mechanics. Fluid, smooth, reactive. Good sound. However it's a bit too claustrophobic and aggressive. It needs more of a push for strategy and class-based teamwork. Crossing my fingers that comes with larger maps. Essentially it feels a bit too much on the COD side of combat. Sliding and diving are nice, however the slide distance could be dropped a few feet to help counter spamming. Being able to mount primary weapon systems against walls and corners is a nice touch! Beautiful looking game, although somehow muted as well. More saturation perhaps? Please get rid of the highlighted grenade throws. 3d spotting needs adjustment. These two factors currently make everyone on the map visible far too easily. This creates near constant all-out spray n' pray spamming situations across the map. It reduces the ability to flank, use diversionary tactics, or engage in proper cover and support maneuvers. Again, the COD feel really begins to creep up here.
In summation...you're so close
Servers! Community! Clans and tags! Reduce the COD run n gun factor. Too claustrophobic. Larger maps! Increase teamwork. Rely on classes, not guns. Adjust 3d spotting to allow for team strategies
