As others have said, you can take ammo from support, but that is only bullets, not grenades. They need to drop their packs.
If your role is assault remember you have half ammo if you take the weapon sling as a gadget. This is because you have shotgun ammo too. Want more AR ammo? Don't take the weapon sling.
Also remember you can take other people's kits if you run dry.
All-in-all, though, I agree supplies at a friendly flag should be a thing.
