Well, as a console (controller) player I 100% agree that Crossplay should not be a default setting. Period. It can be an active choice and change of settings for those who want to play with friends on different platform/input. And it can be a last resort, fallback solution for matchmaking when player count is so low that it is impossible to start a game without crossplay. Let's hope BF6 doesn't hit that low in many, many years.
In my experience, and in general, PC/m&k-players will allways be unhappy with crossplay because they feal that any aim-assist and other balancing features in favour of console/controller players are exaggerated. Console/controller players are allso allways unhappy with crossplay because they feel like being easy kills for players with more effective input devices.
The difference is just that while pc-players argue that aim assist must be nerfed, console players say they don't want to play against pc at all. To me, that says it all.
Just turn of crosplay default OFF already. It's plain dum.
